...or hello and good afternoon everyone. I'm Neil (the clue is in the username) a brummie expat living in Ibiza and have been drawing on the wealth of knowledge on AOS for some years now.

I am the proud owner of a two vinyl playback systems. One based around a Technics SL1200 MK5 with Rega RB250, Incognito rewired with Michell Tecnoweight, Sorbothane dome feet, Graham Slee Gram Amp 2, Quad 33/303 and B&W DM2 speakers.

The other is a Michael Lim special Rega based deck, acrylic plinth, Pro-ject motor, Pro-ject speedbox 33/45 control, Twin pulley / belts, SRM/Tech acrylic platter, Michael Lim Sub Platter, Michael Lim adjustable Feet sitting on mini sorbothane domes. Pro-ject Phonobox SE, Yamaha P2100 power amp and B&W DM220 speakers.

I would have posted pics but i'm in England at the moment, just popped in to take in the atmosphere of chaos, confusion and national depression before i head back to my paradise island where i live (very happily) in a bubble.


I've got a specific question that i'll be posting later in the Technics forum but for now just introducing myself.

Thanks Geoff. My system(s) are an evvolving mixture of stuff i've accumulated over time and don't want to part with (Quad and Yamaha amps / B&W Speakers) and other stuff i've heard or read good reports on that i've bought cheaply on ebay (Gram Amp / Phono Box). I've never actually gone out and bought a system as such, apart from not having the budget for it i prefer to experiment and truly believe that 'latest' is not always equal to 'greatest'. The Michael Lim special TT is the only thing i actually bought new, well the parts at least. I had a Rega Planar 2 which is used the arm on the Technics and intended to upgrade the Rega for the other deck but the project got wildly out of control and i only ended up using the bearing.

I wanted push button speed change as i digitise a lot of vinyl (18,500 tracks to date) so play a mixture of 33/45 and couldn't afford the Rega TT PSU. After numerous conversations with Michael Lim (who was very helpful) we worked out that Pro-Ject motor and Speedbox with his sub-platter would play at the correct speed with the 60Hz pulley. Its cobbled together i guess but it works for me and sounds great.

I DJ at a sunset spot in Ibiza (http://www.latorreibiza.com/en/) using Pioneer CDJ 2000s, which are a much more useful tool for the purpose than an SL1200 ever was. Its a bar and restaurant with music at easy listening volume. I play a mixture of old and new stuff suited to the setting and feel of the place. E.g. last weeks playlist included Can, Alan Parsons Project, Flash & The Pan, Money Mark, The Horrors, The Flaming Lips, America, Animal Collective, Talking Heads, Brian Eno, Ennio Morricone, Metronomy, Phoenix, Nils Frahm, Spiritualized, Stereolab, The Arcade Fire, The Rah Band, Tortoise and lots of wonderful oddities whose names don't mean much to many people

...as far as future plans for my system - right now i don't have any. i am totally happy with my mix and match set ups and quite content to swap bits between the two systems to hear the difference. I do have a problem with a Technics MK5 that i just converted the PSU from US voltage but i think that is best posted in the Technics forum. I'm fairly sure someone on here will be able to help. Quad 33/303 with B&W DM2s is a nice combination - I used to use that in my second system.

Interesting play list . I have heard of most of the artists you play and have CDs by some of them, but many of them are new to me.
