I loved mine but my son snapped the Cantilever so its in the draw, been toying with getting it re tipped but I must admin I replaced it with a Kontrapunkt B which has a similar sound but more refined
A bargain if you can pick up a low miles one cheap I only paid £50 for mine and it was like new

The Goldring Eroica LX offers much of the same. I had both at the same time, each very musical (still got the Eroica).

I'm using one at the moment. Along with the Denon 103, I regard the MC25FL as a good cartridge for everyday use.

Rumor has it that Ortofon made a loss on them, so ceased production.

Not sure what's the deal with all the Ortofon models, the MC25E & FL seem very close to MC10 & MC20 Supremes specwise, but it seems the Supremes were/are a bit more pricey for some reason. The Supremes were later replaced with the (now discontinued?) Rondo range, which to my understanding were pretty much the same generator in a different, wood & resin based body. I have the MC10 Supreme and it's an excellent cartridge, I find it very well balanced and it has a good punch in the bottom end unlike some other modern Ortofons which to my ears can sound a tad lean sometimes. It has a nude elliptical stylus which seems to be of very high quality. I've heard the Ortofon Fineline in VMS30FL and soundwise I didn't find there to be much if anything between the Fineline / Elliptical (VMS20), just that the fineline tracked a bit better and was more forgiving on damaged records. It was probably the best stylus I've heard in that respect. Based on that I'd expect the MC25E & FL to sound almost identical with each other, but would expect better tracking and longer stylus life from the FL version.

this is one hell of a cartridge,im really enjoying it with no thoughts of the nagaoka mp-500 going back on.

What phono stage setup are you using Jamie?

im using it with grants old Nakamichi ca5 pre amp,set to 50 ohms, recommended is 20 ohms loading

As I've not used the Nakamichi, I can't comment on that, but I had some lovely sounds from the MC25FL into a Fidelity Research FRT-3 SUT used with a Graham Slee ERA V Gold MM stage.

i doubt its on par with those 2,did you sell your step up in the end?

I've still got an FRT-3 and two other very decent SUTs. Used with a Graham Slee Reflex M these days, but I really enjoyed the musicality of the ERA V Gold.
