Remember the good old days a few years back, when lots of us on here used a DVD player, and got amazing results with it? Edit Point: Through a good DAC I should have said, saving you your thoughts about using one as a stand alone player, sorry!

Well, I have a silly craving to play cd' again, hence my request, just want an uber cheap job as it is probably a passing phase!

A few people used the Pioneer DV-717 as a transport. I'm not sure about any used as a stand alone player. The 717 doesn't cut it IMO.

I,m using it as a standalone. Well no external dac... It goes through my upgraded buffer and sounds very good.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen, I've managed to get a Denon 1930 at a good price locally.

I have a Pioneer DV-717 DVD player. But being a bit unorthodox, I use mine to play DVDs. :)
