I'm in the process of stripping and overhauling a lenco 75 motor. I'm after recommendations for grease!! Are there any types I should avoid?

I use this for motor bearings and not just on Lencos: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-RED-N-TACKY-GREASE-14-5oz-TUBE-MARINE-USE-/172220630075?hash=item281926443b

Yeah thanks me too
Is it safe on sintered bronze bearing though ?

The Lenco-motor and platter-bearing is supposed to be lubricated with oil. That's the reason for sintered bronze bearings, they suck up oil when you lubricate them, and dispose it to the shaft for long time. Grease is not liquid enought to let this happen.

Modern oils are of much better quality than the oils from the Lencos hayday. Personally i prefer mineral motor oil 10-40w, not synthetic. I'm afraid of modern additives that may cause damage.

This is not the commonly accepted or recommended advice on the lencoheaven website. http://www.lencoheaven.net/forum/index.php?topic=2087.0

Its fine to use grease to prevent oil-leakage, but why use grease on sintered bronze? Sintered bronze bearings are made to keep oil in the right place for long time lubrication. Grease cant seep into sintered bronze. So, why use grease?

Do you find grease when you open the Lenco-motor?

tbh i do not see the point in stripping that motor!

I've tinkered with Lencos for forty years, including greasing motor bearings and not had problems or any wear issues.
