Hello.
I have McIntosh MA6600 & bought a PT Anniversary with Lyra Lydian beta Cartridge. I confess not to have understood MC vc MM implications fully. My MA6600 only has a MM phono stage built in. So sound is lovely but volume lacking.
I'd really appreciate advice. I'm reading about Transformers, SUTs & phono stages. I don't really understand the difference or relative pros cons.
Regarding selections. There seen many options (of course). Would anyone with PT or McIntosh suggest what works well. Or what compliments a Lyra cart?
Many thanks! Anthony

Possibly more than you want to pay, but the step-up transformer advertised here is a perfect match for the Lyra ....

Anthony,

I'm not sure whereabouts in Suffolk you are but I have been using a SUT containing Lundahl LL 1933 transformers with my Lyra Delos to very good effect. If you are close to Ipswich I would be happy for you to give it a try to hear how it sounds. I am currently experimenting with a new Hana SL cartridge into my preamp via a head amp and so my SUT is not being used at the moment.

Hi Anthony, if you would like to try using a head amp, Gazjam has a demonstrator unit at the moment.

Just send your address details to Gazjam by pm to try it.
:)

By the way Sondekker has one of my Firebottle 2000 head amps, you might like to quiz him on the performance should you borrow his SUT

Thank you for directing me to this. I'm still not clear on what is different between transformers & phono stages, now also head amps. Excuse my ignorance !
