View Full Version : Wanted: NOS Tesla ECC83
I've just bought a valve amp and unfortunately one of the Tesla ECC83s is humming and rustling now and again. The seller kindly supplied a pair of new Tung Sol 12AX7s but they don't seem to have the magic of the Teslas but maybe they'll settle down?
Would anyone have a spare single or pair of Teslas they would consider parting with?
No idea how much these would be, maybe some kind soul could keep me right :)
I looked at spot the fake guide from a link Marco has posted and my valves actually look like the early JJ ones with the Tesla branding, more rounded tops and light coloured innards but they sound great.
Open to advice on alternatives too, thanks.
I have a single original Tesla ECC83, taken from an old radio but still looks in v good shape.
yellow type face says TESLA ECC83, BB, made in czechoslovakia, BD 36
let me know if that's any good.

I have a genuine NOS pair of original Czech Tesla frame grids for £40 plus P&p the matched pair. PM if any use to you?
EDIT: A bit of interest in these. They are unused, only removed from their plain white boxes for testing on AVO and in my Art Vinyl 1 for noise. All four sections guaranteed within 10% of each other, low noise, thin steel pin, Czech factory made. No time for photos, sorry!

I have a pair the same as the OP wants, and could be interested in Jazid's pair. Maybe there's a deal to be done? Please PM me if interested.

Aye captain
Now that I've had a long enough listen to these to let them warm up fully I thought I'd write a short review. Equipment used Naim CDS1, Icon Audio passive pre, Prima Luna Prologue 5 (PP KT120s), test disc Van Morrison and Linda Gail Lewis - You Win Again
Gratuitous air guitar - check
Air drumming - check
Pub singer style sing along - check
Same album played straight through twice back to back - check
AOB: Dodgy dance moves, air sax, some bloke playing guitar out in the garden by the sounds of it.
Job done.
Thanks Jazid for great valves and great packaging :)
 I am delighted John! IMHO these should be more expensive than Mullards and flat plate Telefunkens even if we could still find those as genuine NOS. But their curse is they do everything right and nothing wrong, maybe that lack of 'character' keeps them below the radar unlike the Telefunken ECC83S which exists above the stratosphere for the same reason (never heard one sadly, so I can't comment...one day).
