Hi Guys, the link is to a hearing frequency test. my results were: 20-13,000 Hz (57 YO)

I would be interested for others to post results.

through the computer speakers it was pretty bad something like 90-13000
through a pair of apple earphones it was better 20-13000
:idea: computer speakers ain't good for this test

No, was going to say, the outcome of this will depend on the frequency response of your transducers.

Suggest you Don't ! Those online tests are both Humiliating, demoralising and WRONG.. Not recommended.
Last few years I've dealt with my 87 yr old Mother's hearing Issues ..At a genuine Audiology Study centre
Had My hearing tested, curiosity basically (future business for the Test Lab I suppose)
My hearing, under dedicated Lab conditions using Genuine Gear is ~1500Hz better /higher than the typ Crap! online test Nonsense
Apparently I can hear a documented /certified 15,000 Hz (hardly outstanding by any yardstick :-)
But the Online garbage programs claimed 13000 'maybe'
Spare yourselves.

I know what I can hear. I have a speaker testing CD that covers the whole audio band in various ways. My hearing is probably average for my age.

Do not be fooled into thinking that higher frequencies that are supposedly inaudible to you no longer matter. They do. Try switching a supertweeter in and out of use and you will hear the change.

Most pc speakers dont go down past 60hz so not best way to test. Burn test to disc or rip it as flac file and run it on your system. Ive not tried that but have done others. I still get most low stuff but not much past 12khz. Agree with Geoff, you will feel something is missing if its not there though... Ie adding and removing super tweeter

This is the kind of CD I use. I do find it useful occasionally, as I don't own a signal generator, although I'm sure test tones/signals can be sourced online.

Either way It's odd behaviour.
A genuine audiometrics lab.. Not some storefront operation, has an anechoic chamber for testing hearing capabilities.

Some laughable CD or Freebie online Applet is NOT going to give worthwhile results..

Not sure about the somewhat derisive tone.

What do you mean, are you saying people won't hear what's on a CD?

We are not talking about laboratory conditions here, but test tones will certainly give a listener some idea of what frequencies they may or may not percieve.

Not hearing much above 13khz nothing above 14khz
Which is what I would expect from previous tests I have done using various sources on various different systems

Have wondered how any sounds above this matter if I cant hear them

Why the agressive tone Danilo? Are you a professional audiometrist?

Nobody said it was a definative test and an alternative to a professional audiometric survey conducted in a clinic or laboratory.

There are a range of test tones on a CD I have, and through my system and with my ears, I can hear 40Hz throught to 12,000Hz. In fact I can hear 32Hz (the opening organ note on Straus's "Also Spract Zarathustra"). Not bad for 66 year old using Quad ELS speakers (57).


In reply to those who observe they cannot hear high frequencies (> 10KHz), and wonder whether they need to use equipment that has a wide frequency range - I would say yes, you do. Even though you cannot directly perceive a pure high frequency sine wave tone, you would readity notice the difference if the high frequencies were removed from the spectrum of overtones of a musical instrument.

Higher frequencies are essential to the perceived structure of sounds. Whether you think you are sensing them or not. That is why many speaker manufacturers introduced a 'supertweeter' above the Celestion HF1300 in the seventies. The HF1300 output cuts off almost completely above 13kHz and although that is not necessarily audible, the inclusion of the extra tweeter above it has a very distinct effect. Very noticeable when switched out of circuit.

A strange thing is that even with a speaker that has well extended treble, say to over 20kHz, a supertweeter can have a beneficial effect. This is not always the case though. Where it works is I think due to a 'smoothing' effect. Maybe some harmonic interplay at supersonic levels? It works with Tannoys, but has the downside of blurring the pinpoint imaging slightly.
