Anyone keeping old hifi for investment ?

I'm keeping in wardrobe a Nad monitor series 4300 tuner its in mint condition I went on to Dab have two pure DRX 701 ES tuners love the sound ! If interesting to hear what others maybe keeping ? By the way I've been offered £60 for the Nad but I'm not selling just yet

I don't think Audio or Records are an investment buying them these days for the future. If you bought the stuff that was desirable 40+ years ago & sat on for that long these a chance of being a nest egg now, no chance of seeing the future investment back then tho.

Nothing that is likely to be valuable, but I guess most folk thought that ablout the 301,s and 401's etc too, in the day. I guess you will never know til it happens with stuff like this... Records too.

Nah. I didn't get any of my Hi-Fi as an investment. I seem to accumulate stuff as I'm a bit slow about moving surplus on. I'll likely shift quite a bit soon just to get it out of the way. I dare say there may be a profit here and there, but that's just luck.

Investment is the last thing I'm keeping any of it for. My Sansui AU 919 is 1978 /79 and has been purchased for one reason only - my musical pleasure and satisfaction :)

Hmm. Still debating whether to flog one of my ZYX R100 MC's and maybe a nice Fidelity Research FRT-3 SUT. 50/50 chance I think. I'm pondering. :)

ah well, dont be straining yourself til your better a bit... It can wait. My shed is in the tidiest its been for years. I spent an r tidying up from that last little job....I am a messy bugger when doing these things lol

I've got what virtually amounts to a third system in boxes around the place (CDP, speakers, preamp and power amp) plug a bag full of 'spare' interconnects. Not for investment, just stuff that's accumulated over time. I'll probably keep the spare CDP and offload the rest. We've just embarked on a major de-clutter, so now's probably a good time to do so.

I've a ton of hi-fi junk but the only bit I have that is going up in value are my SL1200 turntables.

I bought a second one because when I bought the first they discontinued them and prices were going up quickly so I got another as a spare. So I'm not actually keeping it for investment purposes but it is technically (ho ho) an appreciating asset.

I've got loads of bits, Naim Armageddon (as new) and a Naim Headline with a Naim Flatcap. An SME 3009 II improved (perfect condition and boxed) and a Decca Gold (even had its original box). A Pink Triangle TT and Allison Six speakers (perfect condition), an Alphason HR100S - which I think I will keep. Two pairs of Epos ES14's and one pair of rare Origin Live stands made for them. Probably something else that I can't remember :).

And that's precisely how it should be. Hi-fi equipment is designed to be enjoyed and listened to.

Each to his or her own, I guess, but I simply don't 'get' why equipment is bought for any other reason. Everything I own gets used regularly, as part of my current system, rather than just sitting there as an ornament, gathering dust....

Guess its a bit like property. You can buy as an investment for your old age.. If you know what your doing then you could do well. People buy lots of things as investments so i dont see why audio should be exempt. I bought a lot of pocketwatches as i loved them and felt i would likely get most of my money back one day or maybe get lucky and make a profit too... At moment thats not gonna be the case but they could make a return to values they were at before the slump. Dont see a problem with it, and i do use them from time to time. If i had the money i would probably do it with hifi too.. I like having nice things around.

In my case, the spare power amp dates from when I used valves, and a solid state standby proved necessary as the valve power amp had to go away for fettling quite often. The speakers are an old pair of Mordaunt-Shorts with wobbly terminals, and the spare preamp is .. well I'm not exactly sure why I bought that. I put it away in a cupboard and forgot all about it till I was having a clear-out the other day.

Sadly i know a few guys who've bought old fords just to store and profit from later. They have absolutely no interest whatsoever in the vehicles at all, its heartbreaking :(

But then I got it as a freebie from a neighbour.
TBH though I didn't find much exceptional/desirable in it.

So things like Stamp collecting, Book collecting is also a waste of time? because they very rarely ever get looked at again, just for static collection purposes ;) I used to collect classic British amps more than anything because way back then each has its own distinctive Aesthetics :)

Just keeping a spare pair of Royd Sorcerer SEs as they have the same driver to my current speakers. Also have a spare set of tweeters, a Technics SL1210 for the studio. I did have a much bigger collection, 5x pairs of Royd speakers, but have sold it off to people who use them. :)

I have a pile of vintage/classic gear. Some of it bought as 'back up' should items fail and need to be repaired, some bought as I found myself 'collecting' Quad gear. Of the latter, I have 8 spare power amplifiers, 4 spare tuners and a spare pre amp. Doubt if they are worth a lot.

Of my TTs, well the Thorens 124/IIs and the EMT are increasing in value, but that's not why I bought them.

Some of my many cartridges and arms are increasing in value, some are not.

I still have a good deal of gear that I really ought to put up for sale her on AoS.
