I bought this several months ago, as I already have a Velleman K4000 power amp, and thought it would be nice to have the pre. As standard it's OK, but there is a modification that improves it considerably. http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1826/ So I've done that, and now it's pretty good. And it's surprisingly small, like a slightly wider brick!
But I am building a DHT preamp, and I have been ordered to sell! (There is an LDR pre for sale too. )
I used Kiwame 2W carbon film resistors, Valab polypropylene output caps, bypassed with Vishay MKP 1837s. The valves are Electro Harmonix ECC82s. I have tried various valves, and these that came with it are fine (Mullard M8136s are better, but expensive; you can have fun valve rolling!). You do lose the +6dB option, but the gain is plenty, in my opinion.
It is unmarked, except for the felt-tip socket labelling on the top at the back, so I could tell what is what. It will come off with WD40 or white spirit, or I will remove it if the buyer asks. Plus I have a copy of the manual.
I am asking £120 plus P&P for it, or you can pick it up in Plymouth.
