Any Builders - Damp patch on inside wall

I've just noticed a damp patch on the inside wall of our bedroom which is at the front of the house.
My guess is moisture is getting through because the front area of the outside wall could do with a re-point but that's a guess
Any ideas ?

Poor pointing won't help, that's for sure. Have you checked that there's not a leaky gutter letting water run down the wall?

Thanks Geoff. Havnt noticed any gutter leak.
We have that whitewashed pebbled stuf that covers zillions of houses across the land, so my guess is that moisture has penetrated that at the point where the patch appears as well as maybe some pointing required underneath that area too. I'll get someone round, fingers crossed not an arm and leg job.

Go with what Geoff has said, next time it rains, look at the gutter above the area you have the damp, are there any gutter joints in that area?
Any cracks in the pebble dash in that area?
Have you had a look in the loft above damp area? i assume damp area top of wall by ceiling? worth a check in loft or can you see from front of house if any tiles/slates missing or broken.

Not always the gutter joint or crack. Very often it can be bits of moss , brick chips and other crap ,filling the gutter in one place (usually a bit lower than the rest ) and then causing it to leak slightly when you get a lot of rain.! I know the 3 times we have had damp down the wall ,its been due to that :)

yes ,very true, thats why i said look at the gutter above the area when it rains (to see if it is overflowing). Last one i sorted out the problem was a blocked drain, the down pipe could not drain, causing the gutter to overflow by the down pipe outlet.
