Yes its a twin, rotax engine i believe, it rides great, lots o low and midrange grunt compared to other bikes ive had, sounds good too!!

I didn't know Rotax supplied engines for bikes, they are usually known for aviation engines.

Rotax have supplied many bikes with engines. BMW obviously and for many years. MZ and Armstrong spring to mind too. No doubt there are others.

I had a Rotax powered Armstrong MT500 ex army all terrain bike. It was a pig! Bastard awkward left kick start, would never idle properly and had useless brakes :rolleyes:.

I saw a couple of those at a sprint held at North Weald. They were tuned and went like the clappers for singles!

(mind you, my old Yam SZR-660 didn't hang around for a single either, not seen one on the road for years)

Only managed just over 100 miles so far but yes FUN, once on the move,getting it off the line is the most awkward ive bike ridden in 30 years,very easy to stall! Apparently Boosterplug cures this,a bit like a power commander ,I'll get to know it better first.winding on from 3rd is quite addictive :)

well not quite1719217192 its called an Accelerator Module, it effectivley tricks the bike into thinking the air is cooler thus getting a richer air/fuel mix and hopefully fixing the jerkey response in first,looking forward to a spin tomorrow:)

I didn't know you'd had a problem with it.

A richer mixture should 'fatten' the midrange a bit. Maybe at the expense of a bit of top end.


I dislike modern technology on bikes. 'Fly by wire' controls and digital engine management just mean more complexity and dear parts. Important if you want ultimate performance I suppose, but I like things simple. You can't fix a dud chip at the side of the road. Not that you'd have a spare anyway or even know what bit had packed up in any case, without plugging in a diagnostics computer.

I'd be happy still using carburettors, points and condenser on the ignition and cable controls. I'd not want to go back to drum brakes though! :)


Your bike musings have got me at it, looking at bike sale listings. I'm tempted to get another. I must be mad! :mental:

On a down note re bikes:( My local bike dealer Ian Bell was killed yesterday in race 2 of the side cars at the TT. RIP Ian. He wasn't a close mate but I had known him for several years, chatted bikes over the odd pint with him in local pubs a few times and bought bikes from him. He was married with two kids. His son Carl was the passenger but is OK.

Anything really. Probably something smallish and cheap for now. Got three cars on the road at the moment costing me money.

GS500, MZ :eek:, even a dinky Innova 125. Had all three before and got a soft spot for 'em. If I sell one of the cars, maybe an SV1000S. Always fancied one.

Wicked little tool! 60 mph in 5.5 seconds is going some for a 200. I've only seen a couple and they look amazing in the flesh.

A small bike is fine by me. I'm not big and it won't get used every day. A bit of weekend fun is what I need.

Mate had a TL 1000R with basically the same engine. That was nuts. Bit on the big side though. The SV is very compact.

Yeah. It was. Mega hard to come by though. Spares only from Japan.

Fitted a Gabro chip and a Mivv can and must say it was the best fun ever. Crazy torque and even crazier stopping power, still brings a tear to my eye that i sold it :(

Jap race rep 250s and RS 250 Aprillias are painful to ride. I did a 600 mile, two stage trip on a Yam SZR 660 (TZR frame) some years ago and that nearly crippled me.

It was until a very kind lady decided to reverse over it and nearly me at a petrol station whilst i was filling up. I managed to jump off before she destroyed it :(
Crazy thing is that she tried to blame me for everything, despite the CCTV showing otherwise :mental:
I spent so many hours polishing those wheels :steam:
These days I'm slumming it with this ZX10R C1H. A bike smaller than most 600's but fettled with a power commander it deserves its rep as bike for the insane :stalks:
