Well I have a couple of Leica rangefinder cameras (an M3 and an M4), but would like the digital Leica 240. Trouble is it costs £5,000 for the body alone, but I would be able to use my Leica lenses with it.

As for cars, well I do hanker after a Jaguar XKR, or an Audi sports saloon. I have no interest in motorbikes.

Not exactly Jez. I've owned an MZ and an Aerial. They sound totally different and handle differently. Far better brakes on the more modern MZ. Performance is about the same though.

I meant mainly in appearance.... both 2 stroke 250's with leading link front suspension though. I had a Supa 5 for a while myself, it had character...

A truly eccentric motoring journalist of extreme erudition with a grasp of language and depth of knowledge most can only dream of. Considered by some to be the greatest journalist who ever lived, and by others a pretentious twat. I favour the former. Consider this piece on the Citroen DS (the real one, not that horrid little hatchback the defiles the name these days). Back to lusts. Of course I eschew material goods and lead a Spartan lifestyle. But, given the opportunity, somewhere a bit bigger to live in would be handy. I'll take Blenheim Palace. Kick out all the tourists and whack up a 30 foot security fence around the grounds. Patrolled day and night by my crack squad of Thai bodyguards. Lindsay Lohan would come to live with me.

I also do the entire interior out as a replica of Moonbase Alpha from Space 1999 so it would really mess with your head when you walked in and I might join the local parish council and open some fetes or something just to show willing. Otherwise I'd be stopping in

That one you linked is a 2010 released album, you know i would not be seen dead with a prog album that late :D

Well ok its not that i dislike Italian Prog but its at the time where prog was on its bike really. The musical content is ok with most of it, lots of flutes & stuff but the Italian lyrics get right on my tits.. You see Italian prog at its height around 1973/74 is what you would call Symphonic Prog :rolleyes:

I thought it a load of pretentious bollocks - I couldn't be bothered to read past the first paragraph. His audio writings were less flowery, but being a blinkered Linn/Naim enthusiast, he tended to compare everything made by other manufacturers to that made by the Glasgow-Salisbury axis, and if he couldn't do that he just wrote a lot of seemingly erudite waffle which didn't say anything at all.

You could argue that any review of anything doesn't really say a lot, and what it does say is of little use. The primary purpose is to be an entertaining read. Something most hi-fi reviewers don't seem to get.

I always found LKJS to be entertaining. Same with Boris Johnson. What he writes is mostly bollocks, but it is well-written bollocks.

I don't have the time or patience to read 'bollocks', no matter how entertaining it is. Agree most audio reviews are of little help: nowadays all they do is to describe the physical appearance of the gear, maybe enthuse over the build quality and that of the components used, and to say it sounds wonderful and is an enormous improvement in SQ over a previous model. :doh:

That's why I don't subscribe to the audio press anymore. I no longer read newspapers either.

I used to read The Telegraph on line until they changed the web-site to make reading it without paying for it a pain in the arse. No way I would pay for it. the Hi-fi press I stopped reading about 4 years ago as it is simply too bland.

The last thing I want really from any sort of review is to be entertained :scratch:
I've read a few reviews that I've thought were excellent, simply because they were absolutely bang on in expressing the qualities and characteristics of a product that I actually had.
On the other hand, yeah - ive read some and thought and that's a review ?? :scratch: :rolleyes:

You could argue that any review of anything doesn't really say a lot, and what it does say is of little use. The primary purpose is to be an entertaining read.

I totally, indeed vehemently, agree!

That's why I find reams of text discussing graphs and measurements, or technical spec/performance, about as entertaining as watching a pregnant Poodle have a poo! <MAJOR YAWN>

That might have worked in the 50s, 60s and 70s, for a largely DIY/technically minded audience, but it's not what the majority of folk want today. What they want is to be entertained by witty and/or descriptive prose, which successfully conveys what the reviewer is hearing, subjectively, together with any humour that the author can inject on proceedings.

That's why I enjoy reading Ken Kessler! :)

A truly eccentric motoring journalist of extreme erudition with a grasp of language and depth of knowledge most can only dream of. Considered by some to be the greatest journalist who ever lived, and by others a pretentious twat. I favour the former. Consider this piece on the Citroen DS (the real one, not that horrid little hatchback the defiles the name these days). One of the finest ever writers on motorbikes! I have a book by the grat man called "Twistgrip: An Anthology of motorcycling" which I nicked from the school library when about 12! Bloody marvellous and even has fiction by LJKS (a story about an articled clerk from a solicitors, racing across the moors against time on a DBD34 in order to have a dying wealthy land owner sign his new will in time)

D14-4 here.... off road.. no seat on it.. Fs1e first legal on road bike... whilst still at school (Jan. birthday). Still never owned a car.

I'd like a diesel Defender with the 2.5 BMW lump, but the economy and tax are a bit silly. The insurance is on the steep side too considering the meagre performance it offers.

Tbh i like the jalopy i drive and would probably only swap it for another irrellevent of money.. Comfy car with plenty room and seat is bang on right height.. Gear stick up toward dash too. PS its a ford cmax;)

About the same with my current bike, CBR1100XX, does everything so well another the same would be my next bike... but they stopped making them :(

Yep Midwich Cuckoo-style. You'd have to dye your hair blonde and affect a cut-glass English accent, though. Unless you are already blonde and talk posh in which case carry on.
