Some members may recall Hifi World loved these and used them as their reference speakers for reviewing equipment. They have a lovely clear sound (I think the review mentioned a fresh spring or waterfall I forget which!) but with no fatigue. The nero granite sides make the cabinets inert with little (I would say no) cabinet resonance. They are mint (including the all important ribbons) and boxed with all the bits that came with them. As these were £1500 circa 2000 I think £450 is a very fair price for these statement speakers.

I have decided on a change in direction where speakers are concerned and am going for small inefficient monitors. I will probably sell my Yarland EL34 amp at some point too.

Collection only please from North London.

30% of the original asking price isn't much and they got top marks in HFNRR and Hifi World at that price. More like 20% after inflation, and still in mint condition.

Weekend bump. I had a near transcendental listening experience with these the other night. I was up late so turned the music down and moved close to the speakers, pointing them towards my ears. The performers formed a little stage in front of me between the speakers it was most pleasant, I put it down to the excellent ribbons, plus the good integration with the dynamic driver.

Hi Lawrence, do you know what the sensitivity is for these as I can't find anything elsewhere.

Sorry I don't, annoyingly in the hifi world I had the page where they said the measurements could be found had an advert on it! It appeared to be an editorial mistake as they weren't elsewhere.

Thanks for responding so quickly. What did you use to drive them and do you think a 300b PP or a Leben CS300x would be man enough.

I think the Leben would be good as I have run them on my 40wpc opera consonance 40wpc EL34 valve amp with great results. The 300b would depend on wattage, I don't think SE would work so well with these, but I've been surprised before. The best way to find out would be to bring them round for a demo, which you're more than welcome to do, once the kids are asleep!

My Leben is around 15w and the 300b which is PP about 27w. I am tempted but not sure I can justify them at the moment.

Sorry, I looked up the Leben as 65w but that was the power consumption. I'm not sure they would be such a good match for these after all. 40w plus of valve or solid state should be fine.

Thanks Martin! Unfortunately I noticed an issue the other day and haven't had a chance to update the listing. One woofer rubber surround has some cracking around the edge where it joins the flat bit stuck to the basket. I glued around it with speaker glue and there is no change to the sound. However if a buyer prefers, the correct surrounds are available cheaply from a supplier in the Netherlands I have used, and doing small drivers is not very tricky at all.. However, as a result I would accept £350 for them now which should make it quite a bit cheaper to buy and get the new surrounds than the previous price. Plus you get a bit of fun DIY! I'd just leave them how they are though as there's no audible effect on the sound.
