Perhaps, but it's mostly music at this time. This is my nephew's system, as it stands right now.

I have "inspired" him somewhat, both musically and materially which, of course means he has impeccable taste! ;)

System right now:
Technics SL-1210 MkII with Audio Origami RB-250 (http://www.ollars.net/hififorum/AOTECHNO.JPG) and a Benz Micro Ace SH (http://www.musicalsurroundings.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/product-template-benz_ace_s.jpg)cart
Lehmann Audio Black Cube RIAA (https://www.henleydesigns.co.uk/Black-Cube-p410)
Xindak V-15 (http://www.canadahifi.com/xindak-v15-integrated-tube-amplifier/)
Some old Tara Labs speaker cable connects these parts to a pair of:
Jamo Concert 8 (http://www.springair.de/media/image/thumbnail/h52732-1-52732a_1000x1000.jpg)

Music is mostly British progressive and hard rock/metal from the 70's and 80's such as Sabbath, Genesis, Maiden and so forth.

Not bad for a 'starter' system!

Indeed, and no joke... If more of 'us oldies' educated our younger brethren in that way, and not simply (ignorantly) presuming that 'youngsters don't care about hi-fi', there might be a genuine future for high-end audio ;)

Well done, Mike - and for getting him into decent music, too!

Marco.

That is a seriously good starting point! I just want to mention that I recently let go of a Rega RP6, a modded and upgraded one that is, for a 1210MK2. Thats how good I think the latter is, and with further upgrades along the line it just keep getting better! DO NOT let him get rid of his Technics :) I wish i would have started out with a 1210MK2 in the first place :P

I'd like to think it's a decent system to build an interest upon. Doesn't crave any hardware upgrades at the moment.
Not for him and i do belive most of us seasoned audiophiles would enjoy music with this kit. :)

With that in mind, where would you guys start in refining this kit?

If he likes it as is, then why complicate things.. As you rightly say, its gonna sound pretty good as is.

It's probably already as good as what I have now, if not better.

Bigger speakers.

I've always liked the Concert 8. Prefer a pair now to most of similar price when new.:)

Well thought out and balanced system IMO.

Best upgrade = more records :)

:) None taken! (I believe!)
And thanks for all the good advice and cheers!

Best action right now should be to just enjoy good music!
