You'll probably see more Rega'300' & SME 'V'/'IV' on Gyro's than anything else.

Hi John,
Technoarms a good shout with a Gyro, have that exact same combination myself.

Next step, look to an Audio Note Arm One as an upgrade to the Technoarm, even better if you get Johnnie at Audio Origami to rewire it with his Ikeda silver wire.
Heard a few accounts from sources I trust...thats that's an SME V beater.

For a Rega-fit arm, that's about as good as it gets (I have an Arm3 II).

I'm not sure that's a very high bar personally.

I recently held an arm bakeoff, the Audionote Arm one was very disappointing, sounding tizzy with cymbols. It was bettered by AO modded RB250.

The best of the day was Audiomods V, closely followed by Roksan Tabriz (Cardas J7 rewire), I suspect the biggest difference between AM and Tabriz is in the wiring (Silver vs Copper)

We had AT OC9 mk2 on all the arms, on Acoustic Sig deck.

Good info.
Possibly need the silver rewire for the One?

Was that the original tweaked Rega Arm One, or the current product? Tizzy is the last characteristic that I'd ascribe to the new Arm One.

The AN was the new One, had to try it myself to see what the fuss was about, but moved it on quickly.
Tizzy is a generalization, compared to other arms I have (to me & 2 others that heard it) the top wasn't quite right, it may be highlighting something with my AT carts, but its the only arm that did it.

I know its an uncommon opinion, but my ears ;-)

Sounded remarkably like the Helius Scorpio

I've heard Arm 2 and 3's, but not at home so can't really comment on AN wiring. I've got a couple of silver wired arms (Audiomods and Artemiz) and they have a brighter balance than copper, not something I'd want with the AN?

Or maybe go to the original designer of this style arm. ;)

Audio Note are more than heavily influenced by Helius / Geoffrey Owens, they totally lifted the design of the Orion 4 for their "SOGON" arm with their new arm being a heavy derivative of the Helius Scorpio 3 / Logic Datum S.

I would get a silver wired Helius Scorpio 4 instead.

In my personal opinion, just like this whole post, I have no time for a company that so blatantly steals other people's designs.

However, you can't deny that they have some great designers and original thinking too.

Did they "steal" it or is it made by Helius ?

Nothing to do with Helius.

Aren't these Linn geometry?

Nima will fit if you want a Unipivot, although I moved mine on in favour of Tabriz's.

Nottingham make great arms. The Ace Anna I had was simply superb.

At that price I would go for an Audiomods I think. I would rather have a used SME IV though than the AN arms without any hesitation.

An SME on a Gyro...would love a V on mine.
Supposed to be some real synergy going on there, though Ive heard some say the V can be a bit mechanical sounding?
Maybe not on a Michell?

Over my 30 years in hi fi I've had SME, Hadcock, Grace, Ittok and finally for the last 10 years an ARO which is utterly sublime.

If you can find one I promise you you won't regret it.

Regards,

Martin
