My daughter says the computer shows it is upgrading windows which I don't want! :steam:
I got in and it shows 7% so I've switched the PC off.
Will that stop it ??

I suspect it may have overwritten some of the original operating system or maybe even have deleted it before proceeding with the W10 install. You'll find out when you turn it back on.
Untill it starts again... You may if not connected to internet start it up and find the updates and delete the folders..their is some info online about which forders it sneaks the stuff initially onto you. Rive.
They were doing this with me and i was removing them... Even with the dont check ticked... Then they started changing things on the pc and stopping some features then a few days later say you will need win 10 or pc will not work.... I deleted windows completely and moved to linux...best move i made..i then bought a cheap laptop with win 7 and use that for anything i need on windows. Win 10 is spyware.

If it won't boot. You'd have to go into the bios and reinstall the original edition of Windows from the recovery disc or partition if you have one (if the partition is not written over).
If you don't have recovery options, a copy of W7 (assuming that's what you've used) is not expensive. I paid about £35 for my current one and it's easy enough to install.
Anything you had on the computer could be lost unless specialist software is used to retrieve it, Which could be tricky if there's no O/S to run it on, but there are ways around that too.

Proper naffed off about this particularly as my PC behaved like total cap when I first installed it. I had to do system restore back to Win 8.1 and lost all our files and documents. My daughters know how much we don't want 10 and the hassle it caused. My daughter is sensible and says she just turned PC on and then noticed 'Windows upgrading'
I still havnt switched back on
If it continues install what do I do? Devil and deep blue sea. Either way, restore is lose everything, pics, homework files .......
initially I would switch your broadband off, and try and see if the pc will let you boot it up or at least get in to safe mode if not... if you can still get in then I would get a extenal hdd and copy off your files... you can then let it update and then uninstall it again

Some bootable CD recovery discs allow you to recover 'lost' files without using the main operating system and you can put them on a memory stick. I'd start it and see what happens. Presumably the task manager could be used to stop W10 installing if it is doing so.

lol, yes never did crack that with mine, but I have the win 7 one to do print jobs. files can be sent between the pcs if needed too.. I use the mint 17 one mostly, but the 7 ultimate is used for lots of things too. Nice to have both, and no microsoft in my face as the 7 pc wouldnt take win 10 even if they wanted to do it, which the of course , dont ;):eyebrows:

Fine if you like being spied on. It's devious to say the least. Your every move and habit is being logged and it's not just for marketing. You are being 'profiled'!!

People have been saying that since the days of windows 95. Id suggest if people are THAT worried they just dont use a computer anymore.

A good idea for most. I don't bother, as I keep very little on the PC. The hard drive is only 80gb. Deliberately chosen as I need no more (less in fact).

How can users trust Microsoft when Windows 10 is nothing but SPYWARE? Microsoft's own definition of spyware is posted here http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/spyware-whatis.aspx. The only way they get around their own definition is the fact that people are still "Accepting" the Privacy Policy to download the software.

I am so happy I am not upgrading and will not update to the new MS SPYWARE. My home has 5 systems (ALL LEGAL) and since I work in IT there are a few hundred friends and family will be told to avoid the upgrade.
Maybe if we can get enough people avoiding this new "FREE" SPYWARE, MS will listen.
Remember, nothing in life is FREE, including MS SPYWARE 10.

Personally, I removed Windows 10 and went to a business version of windows where Microsoft cant as easy push Spyware on me.
I ran Win10 up till the point it started uninstalling legit software from my system with its updates.

Windows 10 wasnt around 7 trs ago was it so the point stands that it isnt just windows 10. If you have an issue with things its up to you. Id suggest you dont go outside and count how many CCTV cameras you walk past if youre that worried about being tracked thats all. Personally ill just go on with life.

The point was that it isnt just windows 10 and that people have been saying dont upgrade windows with every new version. Im assuming you have used a few different computers in the last 20 yrs though?
If its that much of an issue for people then just retire from digital/online life as youll never get away from it no matter what version of software or computer you are using. Otherwise just enjoy life and stop worrying about every single thing.

Right, I plucked up the courage to switch back on and hit F8 like crazy
A black screen appeared with the words restoring back to your previous version or something like that anyway after a while it gave me normal log on screen, after logging on desk top appeared and looked as normal.
I went to view update history and you've guessed ... Under name - Upgrade to Windows 10, version 1511, 10586, Under status - failed ( Yipp flippin eeeeeeeeeeee !!!!!! ):dance:
Looks like by pulling the plug whilst install was at just 7% and turning off internet I've give the install process a right kick in the seed bag region !! (hopefully)

I'll keep an eye on things though as i've no doubt the devious, slippery, insistent, wormy tool from ihell will continue to fight dirty and try and find a way in.
Having it installed is one thing but the other thing that really is a pain, is that when I did install it way back when it first appeared on my pc with it's coercive ways, it made my pc operate so poorly, clunky and unstable that it was rendered useless and not fit for purpose.
I spoke to Lenovo at the time who despite Microsoft forcing this on us said that it was actually not compatible with my very new all in one Lenovo pc. But of course Microsoft wouldn't care about that and the inconvenience to me and my family who use the thing on a daily basis for homework and so on - sod the guinea pigs eh !
As a result I ended up having to do a system restore back to 8.1. Even though the family lost precious pics, files, documents etc it was actually a relief to have what you could actually call a pc again.
They can get lost - 8.1 might not be perfect but at least we have no issues with it and the pc works ffs

this should give you some of the folders they use in your updates.. if you find them, then you can delete or uninstall them and then hide future ones.. that might help.. witch to no updates as well.

I dfound that out by letting the PC install all updates one day to see what arrived and sure enough I got all the W10 stuff. Did a restore to remove it and went back to 'important updates'. W8.1 may let you do the same. There are tips online about removing it all from PCs anyway. I think Grant did a bit of research on that.

Ya not wrong Geoff. She's proper switched on my littlest, 13 year old. She called me as soon as she saw it as she knew I'd be on my way home from work AND what that install potentially meant from the last time.
Fortunately i was about a street away and legged it hard :eek:
it was updated from recommended to important to help force it on folk. FBI wants as many victims as possible ;)

Sounds like they changed the priority for W8.1 then. There should be a way of blocking it.
I've got 8.1 on another PC and may just let it install 10 to see if it does it properly. Then just block all the invasive, intrusive and data gathering bits.
Personally I think Windows 10 is by far the best version of Windows so far, I love it and wouldn't want anything else. As for being spied on, well don't use a computer or the internet then, or stop doing dodgy stuff? Every time you log on you are monitored and what you look at/do is being monitored somewhere, unless you are using the Tor network. I'm just not that paranoid and I don't do things illegal online :)

I just did a hardware shutdown and rebooted. No issues after that. We got Sony Touchscreen laptops and Sony has not yet certified its drivers for W10. So updating to W10 would be a danger for VAiO touchscreen owners.
I have given W10 a spin on one of my i7 based laptop and can't find anything there that was in any way better or faster in my case. So I am not in any kind of urgency to swap one log on screen for another.
Just wait until you get the "You need to log on with your administrator name/password" and even though you type it in exactly it refuses to respond, why?
Cos Win10 corrupts the info and there is no way to start your PC, not even in Safe Mode, only recourse is to wipe and reinstall everything!!!!!
Google it, it is/was a major problem, just pray it doesn't happen to you, I went back to Win 7 after that f*ck up and Win 10 can go take a run and jump!
It's been hassling me for ages with its pop ups and I've ignored it. But the other day it put up a message with the date that it is going to happen! It didn't say '...and fuck you pal', but it might as well have done. Can't recall the exact date but sometime this month. Not really sure what to do. I don't really care about being profiled by some algorithm and, as Tim says, that happens already.
I like to try to work out who it thinks I am from the tailored adverts. Funny, sometimes.

And thats exactly it for me Stanley, the forcing it regardless of whether you want it or not is wrong. It's not like they then put things right when your pc starts acting crazy which most certainly has happened to more than a few people as documented all over the net and my experience too.
This is not just about people being paranoid. We know we are being monitored in all manner of way, who doesnt know that ?
No, for me it's the 'you have no choice, you will have this and if it buggers your pc, causes you all manner of inconvenience then tough' attitude that gets my goat big time !
I often go on amazon and look for something like sanitary towels just to see how long it takes for sites to pop ads up :lol:
Dont get them on pc as ive got all that shit blocked but on tablet they come up pretty quickly.
Its not so much microsoft profiling its the ability to read keystrokes and read your hard drives and passwords that is ooo...our govt would be all over it if it were a hacker but as its fbi based and uk govt get some benefits they say zilch
I'm prepared to accept the primary goal of it is anti terrorism but I suppose it could be used for more sinister purposes- or more insidious things - remember the council that was using security legislation to go through bins and do people for not recycling?
The security and terrotism gets rolled out every time they want to get a bigger grip of the public. As said many times if you dont want terrorism the stop inflicting it on other countries. Govts all want to get to a position where they know what anyone is thinking or doing.. Quite frankly its none of their damn business unless im suspected of breaking law, then a judge will decide. Not some guy in govt or one of its agencies.
Before long they will be arresting folk for watching a film on pc they deem unsuitable or such like. Anyone who has voiced an opinion against them get the works etc

AoS will soon be appearing on a Black list then :). Our crime is spreading the love of music, especially via media such as vinyl, which cannot be spied upon, unlike PC based audio. I better check my TT for any listening devices.
