You'll be looking for something a little more palatial then, to house your speakers? I can do you a crackin' deal on a place in North Lincolnshire!! (Just kidding!)
Congratulations!

(By the way it's double congrats for AoS - 4,000 threads, not 2,000!)

Just noticed: Cash buyer - Danger, Will Robinson! Make sure Hannah keeps you away from all that gear that'll be winking at you once you get the lolly in yer bank account!

Congratulations Hamish,

That's the sort of good news we need to hear in these gloomy times.

Should be one hell of a housewarming!

Cheers all
you a Capricorn dave? Capricorns rule!! Or so I'm told by hannah!

Anthony: I meant to phone you today but got all exited about the flat/house situation!
How's things coming along? I was going to ask about the phono stage situation... I seem to remember you saying about you building one for production soonish or have I got that mixed up with something/someone else... If it was you, what sort of time scale? It ocured to me that I might be wise to use something you build for the sake of synergy... What's your thoughts?

Marco

Nice one, Hamish. There seems to be an infectious feel good factor around AoS at the moment... :)

Just wait 'till you get yer new amp! It'll redefine the expression: 'Happiness is...' ;)

Marco.

Even more (by two days) than you are guv'nor....

The sun/star sign that rules is obviously LEO. I've been told to say that and my conditioning after thirteen years believes that this is true...........:lolsign:

I love pussies, me...:eyebrows:

Congrats Hamish - we look forward to the house warming invite! (Or caravan warming, if you get your hands on all that cash in the vicinity of a hifi shop!)

The Vinyl Adventure
16-11-2009, 23:14
well, we have booked some veiwings for tomo, and in te mean time i have got very, very drunk
there is a mexican resturant called chesters in town.. it does a bit of everyhing .. i had mixed seafood grill and then a filet steak... and a lot of wine.. you gotta celebrate eh!
....house warming... well... anyone is welcome, but i expect some serious giftage!!

Themis
16-11-2009, 23:18
I translate "some serious giftage" : "you to bring your Tequila bottle. And bring it full !"

The Vinyl Adventure
17-11-2009, 00:25
I would certainly not protest against such an interpretation!!

Going to view 8 propertys tomorrow! Wish me luck :)
it's amazing what you can get for the money at the mo! was saying to steve earlier, there is one place that has a 4 meter square room that is efectivly a celar - it's on the same level as the kitchen and conservatory but as the house is set into a hill it's underground! ... Hannah has agreed it will make a frankly excelent home cinema room/listening room :)

Dave Cawley
18-11-2009, 23:03
OK, I'll come to the warming, and even bring all the beer!

Dave

Themis

Good luck Hamish and Hannah ! I'm sure you'll find a beautiful home ! :)

The Vinyl Adventure
18-11-2009, 23:36
I might well hold you to that dave!

Cheers dimitri, problem is hannah's idea of beautiful seems to have taken a turn for the "your speakers are a shit colour Hamish, can we paint them" .... I nearly slapped her!

Themis
19-11-2009, 00:05
Yes, but it's your other half ! She'll end up understanding you, just needs a bit more time ! Be patient, women are like wine. (you need a good year) ;)

"your speakers are a shit colour Hamish, can we paint them"

They'll be on ebay with us taking the pi55 in less than a year then!

Actually, that's how I got my last speaker upgrade, so I can't laugh! (she even paid!)

The Grand Wazoo

Good luck today, Hamish & Hannah.
Just remember, there's no such thing as the perfect house - you will always have to make a compromise on something.

Steve Toy

Warning: square rooms sound terrible. Avoid.
As for your speakers they can be made to blend in with the room better if you select some nice pieces of furniture (lamp stand, coffee table, record shelves etc.) all in slightly different shades of wood. Have a look also at the Sunoko Vent range of hi-fi stands from Quadraspire. They combine performance, weight-bearing capacity and good looks. Your speakers could do with new grilles but the overall appearance would be very stylish indeed, especially if you get Marco to frame you a few pictures and a mirror. I am sure he'd do you a good deal.

The Vinyl Adventure
19-11-2009, 10:35
by coincidence, these are the ones i have been thinking about myself http://www.quadraspire.com/hifi-racks-hifi-stands/hifi-racks-hifi-stands-hifi-furniture.html
there is a bit of a "whats the best option for stands" debate in the gill/sedgwick house hold at the mo

The Vinyl Adventure
19-11-2009, 10:38
i have always liked the idea of something bespoke from this place too!
http://www.hifiracks.co.uk/
i likes me a bit of wood!

Steve Toy
19-11-2009, 12:26
If you go down the QS route you need the next range up from your link, the Sunoko Vent. The performance difference will be considerable.

The Vinyl Adventure
19-11-2009, 13:21
Yeah yeah, the vent is ferther down!

Anyway, so, 2 viewings down
house 1 (in budget)
pro's: loads of rooms, eccentric layout, Near my fave chippy
Cons: rooms all odd shapes and quite small, bathroom on bottom floor with bedroom two storys away! Slightly dodgy area (used to be known as one of worcesters most dodgy areas) near main road, long way from decent pub!
Hifi pro: dedicated room, non parallel walls
hifi con: room quite small and odd shape for layout of system

house 2 (in budget with money for work that needs doing)
pros: big living dining area (8x4m), garden is idea (with a bit of work) location is excelent - adjacent to worcesters new river side development Inc resturants bars etc, really nice pub just up the road
cons: no off road parking, needs a bit of work to the kitchen and loft conversion!
Hifi pro: loads of space for hifi in lounge diner, possible hifi room in loft
cons: ....

House 2 is the front runner so far!

Next house is in perfect area but is over budget...by quite a lot!

Dont forget to get a Homebuyer Report-it could save you a lot of money.

The Vinyl Adventure

we have watched houses just like that one drop about £40k in the last year or so! I have been very fortunate that my place only droped by about £20k.
An old family friend is a surveyor so we are going to get him to check the place over
just waiting to hear from the agents on my offer now!!

...blimey, it sounds like i might have to pack my lady of to her parents for a day/night! she would not in anyway enjoy a house full of hifi boffs ;)

Marco
20-11-2009, 18:08
Who says anything about hi-fi?

Once we've drunk all your beer, smoked yer ganja and trashed the room, there won't be any hi-fi! :lolsign:

Mikey's also prone to leaving skidmarks on the toilet bowl with his big 'curry' arse - just so you know in advance, like... ;)

Il happily be left in charge of that department!!.... I'd spike you and you would know you had been spoken to!!! Concidor your self forewarned
As for skiddys ... Hannah can clean that up!

I reckon that would be at least 50-60% more here, 100%-120% more (at least) "darn sarff" (Surrey, Middlesex etc.) - looks incredible value!
