If you watch closely above the closest cover, you can spot a Moth taking a nap for the evening (and yeah you can see the frame hinges, I will have to swap them out at a later time)

Bought in on sale, got it for a great price..but only the white version though :( Actually I dont use it at the moment. It functions only as a backup, and it delivers quite the punch too! I have barely tried to use it as pre, but I prefer the sound when everything runs trough the old Sony colossus to be honest. Why change a winning formula eh?
Thanks a lot struth. And yes, its small and cosy up there in the attic :) I also have a 55" Sony TV in the back with all the gaming consoles hooked up, gotta have all the fun stuff gathered right ?:D

Thanks a lot Aaron :) I was lucky to score that custom made rack some time back. And the seller was happy and all OK to ship it to me too! It could use some surface treatment and new paint though. But its perfect for housing my existing equipment so far:)

I find myself agreeing with the asses here. The Rotel sticks out like a sore thumb and as good as it may be it needs to be removed which will allow the subtle look of the high quality components you have there to be gazed upon in a more favourable way without the attention grabbing glare of the only silver item in the rack. I have a similar problem which i intend to improve upon very soon.

Only silver bit I have is my x10v3.. Been looking for a black front for it to no avail.. they did do them I think but most were silver. Going to upgrade it actually.
Really great system. I'm also a sucker for those big Sonys. must have the end cheeks and the gibralter chassis though.
Asses or not, they have a point :P The reason for it standing there on the images is simply that I snapped some shots while testing it as a pre. Its not in active use as long as the Sony delivers the punch though :) And thank you Gazjam! That Moth if you can spot it thinks it is a nice resting place too!

What a superb system and room/interior.... Love the high-end Sony kit and JBLs, in particular. You clearly have good taste and have taken time to put together what no doubt will be a great sounding system.
Enjoy, and think very carefully before attempting to 'upgrade' any of those components for something better! ;)

Thanks =) I am pretty happy with how things are, and sound at the moment.
When it comes to future upgrades, the 1210mk2 have a lot of potential in becoming a even better turntable. It´s completely stock at the moment although I have the original thick Technics mat around, I have never tried it though.
The previous owner (he had the deck for 2-3 weeks, so it´s basically in mint unused condition) supplied it with 2x Vibro-stopp "mats", so I never really gave the stock mat a thought. Maybe a combination of the two would be fun :)

As you know yourself, it's a superb T/T, and when judiciously modified turns into something rather special. Do you have any plans to take yours further? :)

I was impressed as hell when I got mine. I had a Rega RP6 for almost 3 years, got new tonearm wires,RCA-cables and separate grounding cable from Origin Live (great service), new Technoweight underslung counterweight, adjustable feet from Michael Lim and a few minor tweaks. That Rega ended up sounding quite nice indeed :) But then I chose to sell it in the 1210`s regard..
I'm planning og adding some Isonoe feet w. techniboots and mounting a Jelco 750 arm in the near future, as for a start :) A lot of people really recommend a new external PSU as well, so I guess that have to come along down the line :P

This is some serious heavy piece of equipment indeed! Don't know if this is of interest though. At least I got it up and spinning those silver discs once again :D

These are beautiful pieces of 'cost no object' kit, works of art, and how PROPER CD players should look inside and out! ;) Sadly, those days are long gone, and what we mostly get now are cheap plastic monstrosities, which in comparison, sound dire....
Anyway, glad you found a spare mech for yours. Mine is (quite amazingly) still on its original one, from 1989, despite having had many thousands of hours use... That's proper engineering for you! No doubt, however, one day it will go, but the good thing is that the CDP is getting much less use these days, since I embraced the joys of streaming, so that will help preserve the life of the mech :)

Grant, probably at any of our ages, even the young ones, music and audio gear is a much preferred thing. A lass with any knockers period is sure to empty the wallet much quicker than music and gear! Gawd, I must be getting old....

Indeed it is. The Sony kind of reminds me a bit of my old Denon DCD-3300 I had years ago, built like a bruiser and sounded quite nice too! Probably was the last top of the line Japanese gear I had bought new.

Thanks! Hehe, well these are plaster walls (is that what its called?) and I have not bothered with LP-frames og pictures here really. Still Scandinavian cool it is :D The stairway walls ar better suited for this though, as you can see.

I use it with an Audiocom-modified DAS-R1 DAC, as I love the sound of multi-bit TDA1541 chips, which unfortunately the X-777 doesn't use:

I used to have the matching R1 transport, but the drawer mechanism went tits up, and I couldn't get a replacement part, so went for the next best thing, which was an X-777ES :cool:
It sounds stunning, as a combo. With this range of equipment, Sony were showcasing their engineering and technological prowess, and building 'cost no object' kit, which was designed to extract the maximum resolution possible from Redbook CD - and you can hear it!
The R1/DAS-R1 combo was £3500 in 1987!! :eek:

That Hegel DAC is actually the only piece of equipment I`ve stuck with trough my many different setups. That said, its not the top of the line or nothing. But I once had a Hegel H200 in my setup and I walked the synergy line for a bit. Also got a good deal on the HD11 DAC at the time. I liked the sound from this little piece of Norwegian hardware, and still do! Seems to work pretty great along with the Sonys and the JBL. No sterile og cold sounding streaming/CD music here!
Ive noticed that Hegel seems to get a lot of great reviews from both press and consumers outside of Norway. Reading norwgian HIFI-forums I feel like the consumers ar quite divided regarding Hegel hardware, either you hate it or love it. Many seem to think the Hegel sound is too analytic and harsh, and its easy to mismatch with other hardware. That might have been the case on the earlier Hegel models... though it seems that people now are more comfortable around later Hegel hardware :) I partially agree with the nonbelievers...I`ve had the H200 and it was A BEAST! After I got the older Sony integrated I had to let the Hegel go, the Sony produced more enjoyable music for my taste throughout speakers then (Patos Symphonic 3..I really regret letting these go :/ ) I would love to try the H200 with my JBL speakers, that would have been quite fun!
As for the HD11 DAC, it serves its purpose greatly! It has the connections I need and sounds great when I feed it with coaxial signal from the Sony player or via Toslink optical from the Apple Airport Exress. Maybe if I played more CD´s and streamed more music I would be hungry for a new DAC?:eek: Vinyl is still my nr.1 source so I think I will keep it for quite some time yet!

If you can find a DAS-R1 (German or Italian ebay are usually good places to look), I think you'd love it, used in conjunction with your X707. The sheer clarity, detail, bass authority and musical insight it gives CD replay, really needs to be heard to be believed! ;)
It makes most modern DACs sound positively broken....

That CD-player looks so good! But I can't justify another silver disc spinner in the house :/ Got to route some cashflow toward upgrades for the 1210mk2 in the near future though..they dont come cheap ;)
Ok, the Isonoe feet & boots are on! And it happens I found the stock feet quite useful afterwards. The boots really sticks to the surface and makes aligning the turntable properly a bit tricky. Så why not make the top plate on the rack fully adjustable by using the stock feet? :idea: A lucky charm they actually fitted in the existing screw holes. The only thing that worries me though, I don't think they were designed carrying this amount of weight. But leveling the table on the fly works like a charm! Anyone have the suggestions for fitting feet I can use (no not another set of Isonoe lol) just yell out!

I agree, bulkier equipment always looks better placed on the bottom of a rack. Bet those JBLs were rocking... Oh, and that beer looks bloody strong! :eek:

I'm happy to hear that :) Havent got around for much music at home tha last couple of weeks. Bought a handfull of new vinyl at Bergenfest last week, cant wait to get some time off in the upcoming week to spin some vinyl again!

Very fine setup Kjell, I'm particularly keen on the JBL but have to cast an admiring glance or three at the amp.
Well thanks a lot Andrew :) The speakers sure draws the eyes indeed :) Glad you could feast your eyes on the Sony :D I hope it will last for many more years to come, and if it breaks down I would really consider getting it serviced by someone skilled enough.
Great sound, bags of power, surprisingly easy to work on and well worth keeping alive these big Sony amps.They continue to be underrated by many although they've a few fans on here.

Sounds good. I bought this second hand from eBay germany back in 2013 I think it was..and it was recently serviced then. So I guess it safe to say it won't need serious servicing for some years yet :)

I've settled with this setup for now, any new addittions in the future will be focused around the 1210 deck I think :) There is still alot of potenital to gain there :) But for now I have to fine-tune the Jelco arm and and spin trough alot of vinyl in the coming weeks ahead! Will be another week though before some proper time off from work..

Yeah it looks pretty empty from that angle, but the floor is mostly covered with carpets and there is a mid-size couch further back, and the vinyl shelves in the backcorner, in the other corner there is a 55" Sony TV dedicated to gaming :P Yeah, this is pretty much my eternal playroom :D So theres that at least. I really noticed improvement when I got the couch "to fill" the room indeed! But there are still improvements to do in the front wall and corners, and sidewalls too! Acoustic treatment, if I want some decent looking stuff hat actually makes sense..well I dont think it will be cheap. Oh well...in due course.
It's been a while since last update, but it has been a seriously busy fall on both work and personal level. Winter is here, and with it comes darker and colder days, and it's easier to find motivation for longer sitdowns and musical enjoyment :) I can finally find my tim to enjoy the Jelco upgrade on my deck and lots of new vinyl!

Ah, haha I see :eyebrows: They are still there for making adjustments, but the sound is pretty good now where they stand though.
