We hired the Alvis just by chance because we could not find a hire company that had an Aston Martin DB4/5 or even a DB6, something to do with Insurance!

Some lovely classics there, except for the Morris 1100 as I can recall that trying to get that bastard started on freezing January mornings was a serious ordeal that has coloured my opinion ever since.

You can't better a beige Rover 3000 though! Total class.

It's one of the easiest cars going to start :). Great engine that BMC A Series.

Used to have one of those Land crabs :D Super tool, but not really for driving about on roads, and are drafty as hell... Had a big winch on front that made a bit of money

Quality, innit? It's 'souped up' too, so would be a hoot to drive: a great balance between class, sportiness and comfort! :exactly:

A 3.8 Mk.II Jag is not exactly slow to start with and can be made to go rather well. Handling and brakes are not marvellous by modern standards, but can also be improved. It was amongst the first cars to be fitted with disc brakes. It's one of my all time favourites and still one of the best looking saloons ever made I think.

Yup, completely agree. It's a similar situation with my Merc: a 3.5L V6 C350 CDI isn't slow to start either, but once Brabus tuned and fitted with uprated brakes, sports suspension and bigger wheels/low-profile tyres, etc, it can also be "made to go rather well"! :eyebrows:

The parallels are similar, actually, with it and the (tuned) MKII Jag, above: a classy car as standard, made sportier and even nicer to drive with some judicious modifications, which is why I like both of them.


It's one of my all time favourites and still one of the best looking saloons ever made I think.

Always liked the Jenson motors, I worked on the sound systems in some when I was a lad.

The overwhelming smell of leather when you got in was delectable.

Love all of those, but the problem is most would only be of use as a 'second car' - something you take out for a spin on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The MKII Jag, on the other hand, could quite easily be used every day, more practically, and for me, be just as much fun! :)
