I was going to ask "what do you do with reel to reel machines at home, make recordings of LPs?" but having seen this I guess you can buy very high quality tapes made direct from the studio masters? Where do you buy them, are they really $450 each and do they degrade over time?

Lovely machine and a really good start to have all those Tape Project albums bundled in.
His starting price is stupidly high for an open auction. Starting it at £200 he would probably get the asking price (the sniping in the last 2 seconds of the auction would be amusing to watch!).
Excellent machines that are well built and have fantastic sound quality.
An A810 in fully serviced condition now with moderate head wear will easily fetch £2600 - £2900 to a commercial or genuine buyer.

I would say so as all magnetic media

Yes, but very slowly, if stored properly and made from decent (non sticky shed) tape stock. I believe that the TP tapes are recorded onto (Agfa/RMGi/Pyral/Mulann) PEM468 tape stock, which is very stable.

Indeed I second that heartily - we have tapes in the archive over 50 years old which still play back perfectly - in fact the most problematic tapes were the ones generated in the 80's on horrible sticky shed stock which once baked and the information on them preserved are fit for nothing but the bin.
