These are my own speakers and along with the purchase of a DAC led me to becoming involved with SW1X.
"marmite' design (love it or hate it) - I'm firmly in the former camp, although I can't pretend they will work or necessarily appeal in a smaller room.
Sound is stunning and finish is special too - £2,250 FIRM --- can't really listen to offers at this price.

Specs

A semi open baffle cabinet, based on a well known design but heavily tweaked - professionally made of highest grade birch plywood (not MDF) in black, finished with 7 coats piano lacquer

The high sensitivity drivers are all vintage drivers from the 50s with AlNiCo magnets and ultra light ORIGINAL cones:
3.5” Grundig gold tweeters with ultra thin, light cones and large AlNiCo magnets
8” SABA mid woofer green cones with hard to find Tigges AlNiCo magnets (10K Gauss magnetic flux density ones)
15” ALTEC 416A AlNiCo woofer for the bass- legendary and RARE 8 Ohm voice coil version drivers with their ORIGINAL (not re-coned!) cones

Resistor-less X-over which includes:
JENSEN copper foil paper in oils for the Grundig tweeters
PIO capacitors throughout
JANTZEN flat foil and toroidal inductors with lowest series resistance available

Optimised point to point silver plated copper in Teflon wiring
Total nominal speaker impedance is around 6 Ohms without dips below 5 Ohms
Sensitivity of the speakers is not less than 96 dB/W/1m, which makes them ideal for low power Tube amplifiers (single ended in particular) but work well with anything frankly although a 'muscle' amp makes little sense ... pictured with a Clones 25 amp which sounded very nice indeed.

Can only accept cash on collection but can pre arrange BT or PPG

They are obv monsters and circa 50kg each so collection only it is safe to say ! .... but bring some gear to audition by all means .....

Note to mods - these are my own speakers hence appearing on here, we will be listing new equipment under Trade seller in time - I hope this is acceptable.

The speakers were on eBay under SW1X umbrella (@ higher price obv) but we will soon cease selling SW1X products on eBay UK as it is not the right forum for premium new audio and we will be announcing a new dealership soon ...... prices will rise but we are very confident we are still extremely competitve and we will hopefully reach our target market and build the brand.... and also hope to list on here too under a Trade profile

9x17 room.

sound very good --- I've never really seen the point of putting systems on `Youtube as obv constrained by (in my case) my laptop speakers but infact you can still appreciate the quality ... I'll think about doing something similar

tks

If you have a look at the Kenrick Sound site, a company that refurbishes vintage JBL monsters, the SQ (IMO) gives you a great insight into how they sound.....Oh and they have looks to die for.....once again (IMO of course)

A bit more info based on questions asked ......
The speakers are 140 x 50 x 55 cm (H x W x D)

They can sit quite close to the side walls.
However it is advisable to keep them as far as possible from the rear wall.

50cm from the wall should be fine but 1m is better.

What really changes is the bass response and soundstage depth.

Just for clarity, is this the measurement to the side wall or back wall?

hi that is (minimum) distance to the back wall .... they are not 100% open baffle on the bass driver (in that there are short side 'panels') this just seems to help making placement slightly easier without compromising quality ... we have discussed using speaker fabric on a purely aesthetic basis to cover the 'open' baffle which is not to everyone's taste ... a future design may have solid sidewalls but no back however everything we do is driven and tested by how it sounds so it's an itirative process ...... apropos of nothing I am just playing Gregory Porter's new album on a 20 year old Rega Planet into a (good) T-amp and a pair of Snell K's which I guess are circa total £700 and it sounds pretty bloody good to me, I never want to lose sight of the music ........ but these open baffle do make a quantum leap (to my ears) -- I'm a little more commercially minded and open to aesthetic compromise perhaps than my business partner but sometimes I have to admit he's right if audio quality is 90-100% of any decision -- I'm shallow and he's obsessed ha ha !

I'm going to risk the wrath of the mods now and post a link to what we are trying to do at SW1X (note the new chassis aren't printed - the details are engraved and very handsome with it !) http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?44375-SW1X-A-review-of-a-new-DAC-from-a-new-company&p=757129#post757129
