TTIP. I won't elaborate, there's enough info out there already, but the whole thing stinks of increasing global corporate self interest and looks to be a real threat to the ordinary person and everyday life. All aspects of services and business would be impacted in more ways than can be envisaged. It sounds like a disaster. I hope it all falls through.

Is it more or less worrying than the EURO Army?

I suspect the two are not being discussed coincidentally. TTIP could potentially give the US huge leverage in pushing arms sales.

Yes the USA are our buddies. land of the free oppressor of others for the dollar;)

Yes. It goes to show that EURO plotting hand in hand with the US is certainly not in OUR interests. It's just about the money!! :steam:

It's a nightmare, but it looks like the French might be about to veto it. Our own sovereign government though are all for it:
The prime minister said it would take “political courage to get it over the line” but the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) would be good for British people. [from The Guardian]
So it looks like we may have our sovereignty saved by the French - if we were out of the EU we can at least assume that the current government would sell a little bit of it off in whatever trade deals they managed to make, no?
The big problem with it seems to be the "Investor-state Dispute Settlement" clauses.
Here is a blog post about how ISDS works in the real world:

If the French do manage to stop it, that's probably the one un-arguable reason for staying in the EU i've seen. TTIP is purely a way to sell off everything to the US. The fact Cameron is so in favour sets off every alarm bell.

Cameron is also in favour of staying in the EU. So how does that work?
Anyway this Wikipedia explanation is less partisan.

Seems like a lot of fuss about nothing especially if you accept that the future is globalization and Big Corporations. Yeah, I don't like it either but that's the way it is.

TTIP allows corporations to sue governments, think smoking should be banned on health grounds, fuck you pay Philip Morris billions. Think GMO crops are unproven and potentially unsafe, fuck you pay Monsanto billions. Want to ban advertising of fast food to kids on health grounds, fuck you pay everyone. It puts control n the hands of corporate lawyers and opens any government up to unlimited damages. Fuck that, we are a sovereign nation and should be free to choose what is best for the public without worrying about whether global corp suffers as a result.
Corporations are allowed to operate under the will of the people, not the other way round.
Global Corp has been calling the shots for years, the politicians are already in their pockets. No-one cares 'what's best for the public'.
I would add 'wake up sheeple!' but it seems somehow superfluous. :)

I think it is closer to Huxley than Orwell. Which isn't too bad. At least the Brave New World has pneumatic blondes.

This seems a very bizarre position to take, that there is no point objecting to a treaty that gives more power to corporations because corporations already have lots of power?
That Wikipedia page you linked to also had far more about the objections to TTIP than about the benefits.
The point about the French I think was that they haven't actually vetoed this yet, just that they might. Clearly Cameron will be lobbying that they do not.

They have too much power. So they'll put it through whatever. There won't be a referendum on it that's for sure. And if it fails it won't be down to people like you and me objecting.
The objections seemed a bit overblown to me, but hard to predict what the ramifications will be, good and bad, as that article points out. Seems like if it goes through we will be in direct competition with Mexico.
Overblown? You must have missed this?

No vote would get mmore than 10% if that so you wont get a chance. Only folk this will help is the few % that own most of the land and all the companies in us etc who only need to say they are going to do something to get a nice law suit victory coz they run the courts that will try the case.
Feel sorry for my grandkids! They are going to have nothing left. I am sure it will get passed though. Tories love this sort of thing
