AT50ANV Low Output MC cartridge. Comes with tools and screws, and a beautiful box and mounting case. £585 posted.

These are getting rare now as they were a special limited edition. They are no longer available from Audio Technica or any UK dealers. New prices were around £1200.

The current ART7 and ART9 are trickle down developments from this, using cheaper materials. This has a titanium body and pioneered the air-core design.

This has been run in and then used for a short time. So more than 50 hours but less than 120 is my estimate. It has been treated with great care. It comes with a luxurious box and mounting case.

It is extremely dynamic and revealing, with excellent tonal fidelity. I used an AT33EV prior to this and the step up in clarity, dynamics and inner detail is profound. It works in all sorts of different arms. A friend uses one of these in the best system I know, using a Moerch arm on a Hyperspace. It also sounds good on my AN Arm one, and even better on my 12" Ace Space. I also heard it on a 12"PU7 which I briefly borrowed; this combination had staggering master-tape style resolution and depth, but I think I preferred it even more on the Audio Origami Uniarm - a wonderfully organic sounding tonearm. This cartridge does sound particularly good on unipivots, in my opinion.

You can check the tech specs online, but the key facts are that it is 0.12mV output and likes about 100 Ohms loading.

It's important to note that this uses a boron cantilever and a line contact stylus. This stylus will last much longer than most standard elliptical designs, and will reduce record wear.

Last but not least, it comes with a really good stylus guard that actually protects your stylus rather than threatening to destroy it every time it is removed or replaced. A simple design but far better than all the other ones I've used.
