View Full Version : Whole kit for sale
My partner who has recently died was a hi-fi fanatic, and in his will he has asked me to sell his equipment to pay his debts.
Here are the details of the hi fi:
CD player is Shanling CD-T300 Omega Drive
Speakers are Horning Agathon Ultimate
KR Audio VA340 300BXL Integrated Amplifier
Kimber Kable Monocle XL 4foot single Termination WBT 0644-0645 SN: 02F 6387 (according to box they came in)
Kimber Kable Monocle XL 12foot single Termination WBT 0644-0645 SN: 02F 6386
There’s also the equipment rack which it all fits on. Plus packing crates
I need to sell the whole lot together please. All reasonable offers gratefully received.
Thanks to the kind advice received from members of this forum, I am happy to sell items individually at prices similar to those suggested below by Neil.

Hi Jane,
Firstly commiserations for your situation, it looks like your partner had very good taste in equipment, which has some value to it.
Part of the rules on here are that you must quote a price, so I've looked at the value to advise you, but what you ask is entirely up to you.
Making the good assumption that quality 2nd hand kit is worth at least 50% of the new prices, you have around £11,000 of kit.
Good luck with the sale,
Alan
Thank you, Alan, for your sympathy. Yes, it is difficult.
I am grateful for your suggestions on price as I have no experience of this.
I am willing to accept any reasonable offer in this region.
Perhaps if I say £10,000 and the buyer comes to collect and pack. It's heavy!
Location for uplift may be added too Jane. So folk can see how far they have to travel

Hi Jane.
So sorry to hear about your loss.
I'm sure someone here will be interested, it looks like really nice kit to me.
I wish you all the best luck with the sale.
Jo
Sorry - I live near Newark where the A1, A17 and A46 all meet.
I'm just a few miles south of Newark one mile from the A1 near Long Bennington, so it's quite easy to find and pretty central in England

Hello Jane, I am very sorry for your loss, a very hard time.
I wish you all the best with the sale. I have heard the CD player and amplifier and they are very good.
The CD player was originally £4000 and dates from about 2006/2007. S/H price maybe around £1500 ish
The amplifier was 5700 Euros new price and dates from 2004. However a current selling price in the UK is £9600 so much depends on age as to what its worth. I recall hearing one back in 2007 ish and if I recall right £5500 new price was what I remember it being, but I wouldn't want to state my life on that.
Horning Agathon Ultimate listed at £11000 new price. HiFi Pig seem to suggest in a review they can be got for around £4000 to £5000 ish. They don't state if that's an ex demo or used price.
Kimber Kable Monocle XL 4foot single Termination WBT 0644-0645 SN: 02F 6387 seems to be about £1500 new price. The 12 ft length about £2000 new price. I can't match up the exact lengths or terminations so that's approximate new prices.
The table would have no great value by the looks of it. It might be a Spectral stand, so maybe worth £150 to £200.
I hope the above is off help. I think getting a job lot buyer is going to be difficult (being realistic) but you never know.
Very kind of you to take the trouble to advise me, thank you.

Very kind of you to take the trouble to advise me, thank you.
I felt knowing the individual new prices and as much info as I could find would give you all the information you might need to make a fully informed decision re what you want to do and any offers that might come your way. I know you need this like a hole in the head after what has happened, sad thing to have to do. Anyway I wish you the very best with everything including this task and anything else you are going through - difficult times.
Yeah, nice one, Neil
Good luck with the sale, Jane. However, as already stated, I would seriously recommend that you split the items up, rather than trying to sell the lot in one go, using Neil's prices as an effective guideline, as I'm sure that will work out best for both you and any potential buyers :)
Marco.

Good on you for getting in there and giving an honest valuation - would be so easy for someone to try to low-ball to their advantage.

Yes definately.
To try to sell all at once to the same person really reduces the number of buyers able and willing to do this. The most willing to do that would be a dealer looking to make a profit and standard practice is to offer roughly half somethings worth (not that there's anything wrong with that).
If you're looking for a quicker sale to cover some debts like you say, it would be better to sell each item at say 85% of current second hand value to enthusiasts (rather than 50/60% to a dealer). That should get fairly quick sales.
Whilst I might encourage loyalty to this forum in some circumstances, make sure you advertise widely across the various hifi forums to speed things up once you have a good idea from people's advice as to their value.
Thank you. I had a difficult job finding this forum, and it was thanks to some kind dealers in less fancy equipment in Sheffield who put me on to you.
If you'd recommend anywhere else to advertise, without being disloyal, please let me know.

So £4000 was got for the same model of speakers by that seller on there. So Jane around £4000 ish for the speakers alone seem's to be a possibility.

+ 1 :(
Thank you for your sympathy, gentlemen. My partner was a professional musician as well as a listener to amazing stuff.
Good to see a professional musician owning a proper hi-fi system, Jane! Sadly, that's not always the case ;)
Which instrument(s) did he play?
Marco.

Helpful bump
Sorry but I can't see a message and don't know what a bump is.
Bump just means he was pushing your ad to the top of the list by replying..:)

Hello Jane , Have you sold any of these items yet , or everything ?
Thanks
Allen
Nothing sold yet.
I would really like to sell as much as possible sooner rather than later as financial matters are becoming more pressing.
Are you interested in anything for yourself?

Hi Jane, Condolences on your loss
Will send PM
I wonder if anyone would like the whole lot for £7,000 o.n.o?
Some people are booked to come this weekend to see if they would like to buy some parts of it.
I will know more after that, and will keep you informed.

Good luck Jane, but don't let anyone low ball you, stick to your guns re prices.
I now have only the amplifier left, having sold the CD player and the speakers.
I wonder if anyone would like the amplifier for £3,000 ono...?
