Repairing a phono cable

On one of a pair of cables, there is no continuity between the plugs (earth). So taking apart the plug it looks like there is a bit of soldering to do :)

Inside the cable are two wires and a shield. One wire is obviously the signal, but what should be soldered to the plug (earth) - the other central wire alone, the shield alone or both the shield and central wire together?

Check against the other working cable, assuming you can unscrew the other covers.

However you probably need to check both ends as having two inner wires gives a couple of permutations.

Thanks Alan, good suggestion. Its an Audionote silver cable, so worth repairing and yes I will be using silver solder.
