I can't think what precious and mysterious materials could be in a mat to make it worth that much.

I'd view it like those £1000 record clamps. With suspicion!

If you really want to throw money at things (that to me at least look questionable). Get an Entreq Ground Box.

To hell with all those stupid boxes - I do however like his shelving system; well I assume he makes them:

I have tried a few of the Harmonix (Combak are the company) bits and bobs, heard their mainscables, interconnects, Enacom treatments and the Reiymo gear (they are involved in making it) and it has impressed me.

Not tried the record mat, but that price is that of the Oyaide mat (more or less) and it too has tuning holes and works really well. We know various musical instruments work by varying materials, thickness, slots, holes etc so the mat might work in a similar way. Anyway according to Combax site the mats and weight are sold out, so no more.

I am happy with the Oyaide so never wondered about the Combax one.

I'm extremely sceptical about most hifi add on's and the product has to really impress me before I part with cash, that said I do own the £280 tenuto gun metal platter mat which has to be the best platter mat I have ever heard and was a significant improvement over every thing else I've heard.
