I've got to sort out a tone generator form my laptop, so that I can bias and do the record lineup on my Sony APR5003V. Thinking about what sort of oscilloscope to buy, so that I can check tape head azimuth etc. maybe Stewart (Lodgesound) could advise on what bits to get.

I sold one Revox B77 last week.

Still many R2R left to sell. Some of them need small repairs.
I am lucky that there is a R2R repairman in Tallinn.

I am using a Revox C270 as preamp.
It has transformer isolated balanced inputs and outputs.
Nice VU-meters. Also, I can set it so that input is at standard level with no volume pot.
Seems like all good music is mixed at - 5db.

Hi Charlie......

Would be pleased to advise - I think you need the sort of monitoring rig that exists in the studio here...

I'm completely back in the technical fold now after a minor setback - time to get analogue tape on again!

Ive been reviving my old Tascam 122 mk2 Cassette deck, I bought it on impulse (whilst Pi**ed ) from ebay about 2 years ago:doh:
I didnt notice it was from USA so go stung with the import tax  and didnt notice it was 110V so had to buy a step down transformer , then I found it didnt work motor running at twice the speed :D
So I stripped the motor out of it 2 years ago and seen the SMD caps and just put it in a shrink rap bag
I decided to hava go at it a couple of weeks ago and have got it working after a recap :eyebrows:, I still cant finish it off with a full recalibration as I dont have any alignment and calibration tapes I can rely on , but saying that it does sound extreamly good for a cassette deck much better than my Nak Bx150E.
So I will be persuing this when I can get hold of some alignment cassettes, any one got any for sale?

My Tascam is squeaking like a panzer. Not sure if it needs a new bearing? What would you recommend?

Hi Steve, do you mean your Tascam 32 R2R?
Squeeking and squeeling is often a sign of sticky shed tape ?, have a look at your tape heads and guides and see if there is a brown oxide build up, if so I would just bin the tape and get some Maxell XLI or RMGI LPR35 and clean all the tape path up with 99% Isopropanol.
It could also be that your pinch roller or guide rollers and capstan shaft need a wee spot of oil
Another but less likely source of a squeek is dry roller bearings on the reel tables, they usually rumble

I own a 122 MK3 , Its defiantly a quality machine :eyebrows: , Not had to do any servicing or repairs , Purchased from the Tunbridge audio fair some years ago

Now you have given yours the once over it should give many years of service

Pleas DONT tell everyone how good These sound or everyone will want one and the price of cassette albums will rise from 10p - 50p each at the boot sales :)

You should hear Alex Nikitin's (ANT4066 on tape heads) modified 122. Just brilliant. Beats my Nak Dragon :)

It's a shame that ANT4066 (Alex) isn't doing any more hi-fi refurbs, as he is now really busy with his new career in Cheshire.

Hi folks

I blurted on the above machine on ebay a few weeks ago but at least it was ridiculously cheap.:eyebrows:

It looks in decent condition but two belts were broken I bought a s.et from ebay and have fitted one easily, but the last is a thin one that emerges from under the right reel and drives the counter. I can't figure out how it would attach without dismantling.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

Many thanks!

Seem to have sorted it with the use of this manual. http://elektrotanya.com/grundig_tk745_tk845.pdf/download.html

Counter belt isn't routed exactly correctly but it is working.
