Amptastic Mini-T PSU spec's?

It seems this dullard forgot to pack my Mini-T power supply, so I need to source one locally. It shouldn't be a problem to get one in Hong Kong, but I need to know the specifications of the power output (amps/volts) and also the dimensions and polarity of the power plug that goes into the amp.

Can anyone help?

Do you know what size DC socket is on the mini-T? Without that info it is hard to know if the laptop power supply you got there is going to fit. But for low noise use, I find that laptop power supplies have far too much ripple and RF spikes. Wee Tee Cee did a write up somewhere on AoS about using a car battery instead of these kind of 12V amps. I would endorse that suggestion.

2.1MM centre positive,if memory serves. They upgraded to a 5 amp supply at one point.

As Stan rightly says Im a big battery supporter. Makes a very noticeable difference to chip amps IMHO.

We have had a few bake offs at my place with PSU/Battery....I always side for battery-noticeably cleaner with a lowered noise floor. (I now really notice mains hash and noise when I venture back) YMMV!!!

the quietest of these types of psu/chargers is the Kensington ones.. when I was using my pc's as a source, I bought 2, and they did make a marked difference. I do now like battery supplys(some types are better than others)... Think Tony's car battery is an excellent option as it will run for some time b4 requiring charging.

I just plugged mine in, connected it to the DAC & source and played music, great sound, no other sounds that I noticed and lots of punch...!

Aye a very noticeable difference and for not too much money.....Quite a few of the troops run Stans Dacs/HPAs on battery,myself included. Well worth a try-just buy the necessary wiring and whip the battery out your car or bike and give it a go (probably get change from £20).

Ive heard a couple of PSUs with t amps and they do indeed up the game performance wise ( yet to hear anything that beats a big car battery though!)

As Tony says, 2.1mm with centre + which is standard.

12 volts at about 1.5 amps so at least a 2 amp or great amps PSU as you don't want to run a cheap switch mode PSU at its maximum current.

If you use a battery make sure you fit a fuse on one of the battery terminals.

Thanks guys, I should be able to get a 12V 5A PSU, with 2.1mm plug made here or in Hong Kong. Lots of guys on eBay seem to supply similar and I'm going over weekend after next.

That picture Dan, is that an actual Mini-T PSU?

Thanks for the fuse reminder Mark, not sure I'll use a battery here though. I do have a nice protection circuit for a battery from Paul Hynes, but it's in storage in the UK.

Yes it is; I've been having a play with an Amptastic t-amp last week and that's its power source; just used my own kettle lead etc
