After much consideration I have decided to offer my Ortofon 2m black cartridge for sale.

The cartridge was bought about 3.5 months ago as a v low hours item from a guy over on PFM and since owning it I don’t think I have put more than another 50 to 70 hours on it.

It’s in great condition and comes with the usuals – box, paperwork, set up scales, mini screwdriver etc.
As you are probably aware the black is amazingly well reviewed across the hi-fi press and forums but personally im not getting on with it (I think I preferred by old goldring 2500……)

Apologies for the picture quality but I can supply better photos on request.

I'm Looking for £285ono which includes 1st class UK postage to standard addresses. Happy to meet up local to Liverpool if that helps.

Thanks for looking folks.

Hi Ben, just a quick update on the 2M Black, I've been listening to it for a while now and I really like it. The excellent clarity and crispness as well as nice tight and controlled bass is a real improvement from my old Denon. Just need to find a good phono stage now, I'm thinking of a Graham Slee Evo Gold V. I hope you have found a new cartridge......anything interesting?. Best wishes, Ianhttp://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g345/ian7633/hifi3_zpsw7wxexbu.jpg (http://s1097.photobucket.com/user/ian7633/media/hifi3_zpsw7wxexbu.jpg.html)http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g345/ian7633/hifi2_zpstzu5bwvo.jpg (http://s1097.photobucket.com/user/ian7633/media/hifi2_zpstzu5bwvo.jpg.html)

That looked in very good nick.

Laser like retrieval of analogue grooves. I still have mine but it's resting before I decide to give it a new stylus.

Certainly is an amazing cartridge and I think it will give a lot of MCs a run for their money!

i heard the cartridge last week at Ian's,it sounded very good although not 100% dialled in yet the warmth was there.
we will have to wait for the 'clash of the titans' show down 2m black vs nagaoka mp-500

Spot on Jimbo, It's the cart that changed the game for me, I'd never had a cart that did the things the 2MB did like it does before. The fact I took a punt on the Quintet Black was because I knew it would be even more of the same good stuf.
Now Jamie, as for that clash of the mm big guns - Nag' 500 v Ortofon 2M Black. I dont know the 500 but have read good things about it. A different presentation to the 2MB and thats what it will boil down to....

I've read from a user that the the Nagaoka is luxurious and romantic sounding, rich in the mid range and throws a wide holographic sound-stage. The Ortofon is more precise and clear sounding and not quite as euphoric,
does excellent timbre, texture of instruments and the holographic thing too especially with horns. It does not gloss over, just plays whats in the grooves, accurate I'd say and true to Ortofons mission statement 'accuracy of sound'
One things for sure is that a fair contest is the Black set up properly and with care as it's Shibata stylus profile and odd angles body shape make it a right PITA to set up, vta is critical I found. The Nag with it's straight lines / body should be easy to set up. :)
