A big thanks to Vinyl Junky and Clarky for visiting and keeping me company tother day. Great afternoon listening to some great choons and talking music. Thanks too for bringing with them a rather tasty JVC DD turntable which sounded pretty damn good. It just reminds me how enjoyable it is to have music in your life and listen to it the good old fashioned way.:guitar::band:

I was just travelling for one week due to EKC2016 event and returned home late Monday night totally exhausted. Yesterday did not have time or need to listen music but today when powered the system up again after the day at the office, oh boy it was nice just to listen music and relax. Sometimes it seems secondary issues take our attention and that's too bad..

A NEBO pre match friendly? :eyebrows:

I seem to so short on opportunities for music listening these days, between band and work activities but it's great when I get the chance.

Anyway, this is the Gallery section so where's them pics lads? ;)

Good recordings more than anything I think Gaz. It is a fairly decent machine though.

Alan One of the best pair of speakers i have owned. Even handed and musical. Beautifully engineered. Come and have a listen Al.

Is that your room, Steve? Looks different from before....

Nice acquisition, in terms of the Hecos. I've heard those before and enjoyed them immensely. We used them as part of the AoS system (kindly donated for the day by Guy Sergeant) at the first ever Scalford show.

If I remember correctly, there's something special about the midrange drivers, but forget what? :)

I also owned that model of Heco speakers. Fantastic midrange and all round balance, IMO these should sell for a lot more .

Hi James,

Did they use paper drivers in the midrange or something? There was defo something special about the mid drivers, I'm sure.

Hi Marco

Yes indeed, i have changed room. I have set up a little den in our back room. The feature to wish you refer is the ability to physically change the links at the rear of the speakers to emphasise and de-emphasise mid range frequencies. Very useful feature. I'm very happy with them.

Hi Steve,

Nice one, mate. Sometimes small rooms are better for hi-fi systems, as they can create less problems :)

I like the look of that room and the cosy and relaxed vibe you've got going on... I'm sure that the Hecos use paper drivers for the midrange, or something like that. There was defo something more to them, in terms of their construction, than simply the adjustable links.

Are you bringing them to NEBO? Would love to hear them again...

They use Alnico magnets, that's it! See here: http://www.heco-audio.de/en/downloads/the-new-statement

Anything that uses Alnico, IME, sounds special :)

Just found a pic of the system we demo'd at Scalford in 2008, a couple of months after the birth of AoS, showing the Hecos, my Techy (in a rather less modified state), Croft preamp, Sony DAC and Copper amp, and Steve Toy's (then) Bel Canto CD transport. Sounded superb!

think they are also linear magnets... also I believe they are paper cones, as are the woofers. That company does some nice stuff

Indeed. Ive not heard them, but have heard good things... out of my league, but fortunately i have my own set of Alnico's, with 5 spares :D

Marco

Yes, your Teles sounded special too, again partly because of those Alnicos....

Hi Marco

Thanks. It's a better room than the cavernous room i was in before and as you point out it's nice n cozy. I won't be bringing them to Nebo because they is already enough gear coming to fill the day. And they are monsters to move around too as you will already know.

Yeah, mate. I totally understand. If I were you though, I'd file them as keepers. Trust me, you will struggle to hear a better pair of floorstanders :)

How's the bass in your room? They can certainly kick it out. At Scalford (in an admittedly sub-optimal room) we struggled to control it.

Bass seems pretty much under control in my room with the aid of strategically placed GIK acoustic panels. They simply play music. Inspired by Gromit i have just bought some Q acoustic 3020 speakers for my AV system and find them exceptional. I agree with what you say about the Heco's, they are very special.

Excellent, Steve. I'd certainly rate them in the 'high SPPV' category, for a modern product - not exactly cheap, but you do get a lot of speaker for your money :)

Had ha. I see your point Andre. Truth is there is nowhere else for it to go. It is a treasure possession. It's been with me since 1973 so I keep it away from direct sunlight. Since Emo's death in pay homage to it on a daily basis.
