Many thanks to Tom (Montesquieu) I am now the proud owner of these beauties. Well maybe not beautiful with a missing badge and an improvised lash up with the speaker cable but I'm looking forward to a bit of fettling in the future, and maybe white or grey grille fabric.A bit of a hectic day yesterday what with work commitments but a small window of opportunity emerged and we managed to meet up much too briefly . Too briefly unfortunately because we never had time to listen to Tom's beautiful Thorens TD124 , Miyajima cartridges and Canterburys:( Anyhow they got home unscathed, hooked them up last night and had a great session. They sound great already! Even my missus likes them. Cheers Tom.

Enjoy! I love mine, they are very easy to listen to all day long. Have a play with positioning if you have room

That's Great!
Those should keep you smiling for 'some' time to come.
Lotsa scope for improvement fettlings too. Tannoys respond ..Extremely.. well to any upstream Gear improvements
and even a recapping (no more than that actually needed imo) of their crossovers, if those are still original.
Even wires (God Save us) are audible if the amplifications/sources are up to it.
Years of enjoyment ahead.

Where have you had the little stands from, Simon?

Tom kindly donated them with the speakers. He advised that the Cheviots benefit by being raised and after living them for a week I have to agree. I'll get some smarter looking ones made up eventually. Is there a consensus on the optimum height?

I'm loving the sound as it is despite the cable lash up at the back

Is it an easy job to replace the tiny connectors? Any advice welcome.

I feel like I should be wearing a club badge :) The cassettes get a trot out now and then when I'm cleaning records - old Gilles Peterson shows mainly. My missus cranks up the Rolling Stones tapes as well.

It's very easy. A couple of pairs of something like this will do the job. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1Pair-Copper-terminal-terminal-banana-plug-jack-speaker-amplifier-KG17-/131766636218?hash=item1eade74eba:g:GJoAAOSwX~dWjLm z

You can spend more of course, but I doubt there'd be any audible difference.

Those uninsulated crocodile clips could well be lethal to your amp, too easy for them to touch and short out. At least put some insulation round them.

My Tannoy Devons had the same connectors as your speakers. Replaced them with something similar to what Geoff has suggested.

Would be OK with some amps, say the Quad 303, that can withstand a short circuit, I know, have done it accidentally!!!

As to height .. it's fairly important to locate the Driver's centre/axis at ~38" the 'usual' height of a seated listeners ear holes.
It Does make audible difference.
PS: brass or copper bolts make for Very good (if slightly inelegant) DIY Speaker terminals
