Thought I'd post some pics of my old Telefunken M10 with it's V386 / V387 record / replay amps for posterity

Hope you don't mind Andy, but I corrected the title of your thread.

Nice machine - one of the old school style of cosmetics. Is it a two track machine? And how distant is it from the Telefunken machines discovered by the Americans (and later copied) after WW2?

Barry, the M10 is Telefunkens equivalent of the Studer C37 and IMHO is a better machine

My one had the SS V386 & V387 record and replay amps but the earlier valve equivalents the V86 and V87 are considered by many to be far superior to the tuner amps.V87's are often converted into phono amps and have a great reputation

Clark,

That's one beautiful machine. The capstan motor is enormous just like the C37. Is it fully working?

A couple of years ago I came very close to buying a Studer C37, complete with recording level meters for £800. After much internal debate I decided I wouldn't make sufficient use of it to justify purchase, and I was also concerned about the availability of spares.

Still hanker after a Studer A80, or maybe a Telefunken M15.

Yes it was but I hardly used it so I sold it a couple of years ago.

I bought my M10 purely on a spur of the moment decision when I was picking up my EMT 930 that I had bought direct from a recording studio on the outskirts of Koblenz in Germany. They asked me if I was interested in the M10 and, as they only wanted 300 DM for it (about £100 at the time) I thought why not.

After keeping it 10 years or so I found I was increasingly using my RT-707 far more as I have quite a few original pre recorded 4 track classical tapes, so decided to sell the M10.

Mark Knopfler "Hard Shoulder" from Get Lucky, apparently.

Sadly he is cheating I think i.e. he hasn't recorded the sound with the camera, and the tape - is one really available? Amazing sounding track though - at least the version on YouTube sounds great and indeed almost exactly the same bar sound level.

Cool deck though.;)
