Mark - I bought this rechargeable one from ebay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/portable-headphone-amplifier-CMoy_W0QQitemZ140357234334QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Au dioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiFi_Amplifiers?hash=ite m20adf16e9e - absolutely fantastic bit of kit IMHO - and coupled with this cable - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisual-Super-Pearl-3-5mm-60cm/dp/B001GMHVZI/ref=pd_cp_ce_2 - and a pair of PX100 Sennheisers, I've got a great little headphone system for my ipod classic when in the office.

(But not rechargeable) ;)

(and I personally prefer a separate on/off switch not built into the volume pot so I can turn it off/on quickly when I get phone calls or interruptions, and then I can go straight back to the same volume without having to fiddle around and reset it.)

Do you know anything about the other Little Dot amps, such as the Little Dot MkIII?

They do quite a few things, tripath amp, DAC, headphone amps with tubes etc etc but i just bought this to try out as i thought my walk about MP-3 player sounded a bit flat & lacking volume.

If you get one of the leads that takes the audio out of the dock connector of your ipod to a 3.5 stereo jack rather than the headphone socket - you'll find it sounds even better, something to do with bypassing the volume control (and the EU noise limiter in the software?!).

It is bypassing the preamp stage, actually. The result is much better, indeed, because iPod's preamp is mediocre.
The best is something like that : http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=38. All headphone amp users have one.

Looks great at $15, so I was buying one, until they added shipping at $24! :stalks:

Any other suggestions for something similar in the UK?

Do any of you Little Dot Micro+ owners know if it will benefit listening to a laptop source?

I just bought a Sony Vaio 15,5" laptop but (of course) the standard line out is too weak when watching dvd's. I now want to purchase a small headphone amp that I can bring along when travelling with mijn notebook and I am interested in de Littke Dot Micro+ which is reviewed well.

Most reviews though are of the LDM+/iPod combi hence my interest in a combo with a laptop.

Na laptop soundcards are terrible you want a streamer such as the HRT

Thanks, I never heard of that one before but I'll look into it.

I guess it makes sense what you're saying that why one would want to amplify terrible sound bij using a headphone amp in the lineout of a bad sound card.

I'll look into head amps/dac combinations and the HRT streamer.

Highly recommended but unfortunately they only have RCA outs and I want a device where I can plug in a head phone.

I gues I need a decent small DAC/head amp device that bypasses my internal sound card and feeds my phones. Maybe something like the iBasso D2.

I ordered the iBasso D2+ BOA headphone amp/dac (http://www.ibasso.com/en/products/show.asp?ID=42). The reason is that it is a single device that both amplifies and converts and it's well reviewed. It is also small enough to carry around when travelling with my notebook.

I am curious how it wil make my notebook sound.

A nice head-amp, you won't be disappointed. I have one of these for two years now, I always take it with me when I travel. ;)

I received it today and just got it hooked up. I am really impressed by this little device! What a difference it already makes even out of the box.

Nice move Steven. ;)
It takes about 40 hours to stabilize itself (burn-in). You should also experiment with the two gains and see which suits your cans best.

Enjoy ! :)

Wow Themis, you really live here at AoS. ;)

The iBasso impresses me by size and the way its DAC perfoms. Amplification - though I am not a technician (but a lawyer) - to me seems easier to be done than the d-to-a-challenge but is produced well.

Here's one happy camper. :eyebrows:
