A great Danish success story began in 1918

In the beginning was the sound track…

On the 9th of October 1918, the two Danish engineers, Axel Petersen (1887-1971) and Arnold Poulsen (1889-1952) founded the Electrical Phono Film Company with a few capable and foresighted businessmen who would support the organization financially.

Their aim was to explore the possibility of high-class recording and developing one of the first synchronized sound film systems in the world. Under primitive conditions, the two Danish engineers and their small staff had to solve a number of what were considered insuperable problems.

Ortofon today

Today Ortofon is a fine mechanical powerhouse, which develops, manufactures and markets the world acclaimed Ortofon cartridges and components for the hearing aids industry.

Our company has always been working with sound reproduction. Founded in Copenhagen, it initially made soundtracks for movies. In 1948 Ortofon developed its first moving coil cartridge, since then more than 300 different cartridges have been developed and manufactured, with our latest being MC A95 Anniversary cartridge.

We benefit from being established in Denmark, a country recognized for its strong tradition in acoustics and its wealth of other high-end manufacturers, who make hearing aids and acoustic measurement equipment, in addition to all aspects of high-end audio.

Ortofon worldwide

Acoustics, materials, technology and micro mechanics are key competences in Ortofon's technological prowess. Research and development is done with the company's own engineers supported by a strong network of acoustic know-how and industrial design in Denmark.

The products are sold worldwide through a network of more than 60 importers and Sales subsidiaries in the USA and in Japan.

Ortofon is owned by Danish businessmen and employs a staff of 95 people. The Ortofon manufacturing unit in Nakskov in the south of Denmark has modern machinery combined with experienced operators, so human craftsmanship is delivered with uniform industrial quality.

Growing the company

Ortofon has developed significantly over the last 10 years and currently is in a phase where the use of the advanced technologies has opened for exciting new business opportunities within the Medical industry. This growth is driven, among other things, by investment in the new technology and new products. As a recognition of the company’s successful development and significant positive impact on local society, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, then-Prime Minister of Denmark, visited Ortofon factory on April 27th 2015.
The company plans to continue growth and will increase focus on development and manufacturing of components to the Hearing Aids industries, not in the least Bone conductors. Ortofon is ISO 13485 certified with a scope "Manufacturing of components in plastic, rubber and metal for the medical device industry and manufacturing of Bone Conductors".
Currently Ortofon A/S and DTU Mechanical Engineering are working in close collaboration within the EU Seventh Framework and Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation.

The latest edition to the RPM range of turntables follows on from where the hugely popular Genie 3 left off. The RPM 3 Carbon boasts a number of improvements from its sibling, the new RPM 1 Carbon.

The new RPM 3 Carbon design has been upgraded to significantly reduce resonance across the turntable. While maintaining the instantly recognisable shape, this turntable boasts improvements in the tonearm, bearing, and motor.

The brand new tonearm is a carbon fibre/aluminium resin construct, made using special heat and pressure treatments. The result of this new design is a tonearm that is more solid and anti-resonant than ever before at this price, while maintaining a light weight. The arm is finished off with a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge and a new magnetic anti-skate mechanism. The improved counterweight also utilises TPE damping in the form of an anti-resonant ring around the fixing point.

The new vinyl topped sandwich platter creates the perfect surface for your vinyl to play on with no need for a mat.

The completely decoupled motor is based upon the same design as the Xpression Carbon, powered by an AC generator that's connected to the new DC power supply. The inverted main bearing now utilises a ceramic ball, offering a more fluid and consistent platter rotation than ever before.

Available in Red, White or Black High Gloss finishes, the RPM 3 Carbon is a turntable package that offers truly phenomenal value for money.

To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio Systyems are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

The idea of anti-resonant structures also carries through to The Classic's platter. The general layout was inspired by the iconic Debut platter assembly, but the main platter has been significantly upgraded to a special aluminium alloy version which is internally lined with TPE damping. The sub-platter and bearing are also similar to the Debut design, but the tolerances are far tighter for The Classic, resulting in a higher-quality performance.

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it's also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic is supplied as standard with the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which has been developed exclusively for Pro-Ject Audio Systems. This popular moving-magnet design allows The Classic to perform to a high standard right out of the box, and also offers upgrade options as your musical journey continues. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. The three finishes (Eucalyptus (Black), Rosenut and Walnut) also mean The Classic can fit into any decor.

The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it's also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic is supplied as standard with the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which has been developed exclusively for Pro-Ject Audio Systems. This popular moving-magnet design allows The Classic to perform to a high standard right out of the box, and also offers upgrade options as your musical journey continues. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. The three finishes (Eucalyptus (Black), Rosenut and Walnut) also mean The Classic can fit into any decor.

The latest edition to the RPM range of turntables follows on from where the hugely popular Genie 3 left off. The RPM 3 Carbon boasts a number of improvements from its sibling, the new RPM 1 Carbon.

The new RPM 3 Carbon design has been upgraded to significantly reduce resonance across the turntable. While maintaining the instantly recognisable shape, this turntable boasts improvements in the tonearm, bearing, and motor.

The brand new tonearm is a carbon fibre/aluminium resin construct, made using special heat and pressure treatments. The result of this new design is a tonearm that is more solid and anti-resonant than ever before at this price, while maintaining a light weight. The arm is finished off with a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge and a new magnetic anti-skate mechanism. To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio Systyems are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it's also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic is supplied as standard with the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which has been developed exclusively for Pro-Ject Audio Systems. This popular moving-magnet design allows The Classic to perform to a high standard right out of the box, and also offers upgrade options as your musical journey continues. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio Systyems are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio Systyems are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

The idea of anti-resonant structures also carries through to The Classic's platter. The general layout was inspired by the iconic Debut platter assembly, but the main platter has been significantly upgraded to a special aluminium alloy version which is internally lined with TPE damping. The sub-platter and bearing are also similar to the Debut design, but the tolerances are far tighter for The Classic, resulting in a higher-quality performance.

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it's also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic is supplied as standard with the Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge, which has been developed exclusively for Pro-Ject Audio Systems. This popular moving-magnet design allows The Classic to perform to a high standard right out of the box, and also offers upgrade options as your musical journey continues. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. The three finishes (Eucalyptus (Black), Rosenut and Walnut) also mean The Classic can fit into any decor.

Pro-Ject Audio Systems have teamed up with the estate of legendary musician George Harrison to produce a special turntable, coinciding with the release of The George Harrison Vinyl Collection LP box-set from USM.

The limited edition Pro-Ject George Harrison record player boasts an entirely unique appearance created by design specialists, Studio Number One. Studio Number One was founded by Shepard Fairey, and the Pro-Ject George Harrison record player makes use of an image taken from the world-famous artist’s work.

To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio Systyems are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The two-plinth design allows the motor to sit in a separate plinth to the bearing and tonearm, reducing the unwanted transference of electrical and mechanical noise. The two medium-density fibre plinth sections are isolated from each-other with the use of specially selected Thermo-Plastic Elastomers (TPE). The use of TPE, rather than the spring-loaded method of historical designs, makes The Classic effortlessly simple to set up while retaining anti-resonance properties.

The general layout was inspired by the iconic Debut platter assembly, but the main platter has been significantly upgraded to a special aluminium alloy version which is internally lined with TPE damping. The sub-platter and bearing are also similar to the Debut design, but the tolerances are far tighter for The Classic, resulting in a higher-quality performance.

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. Like the Elemental, the Primary uses an 8.6” aluminium tonearm with sapphire bearings for optimal tracking. The tonearm is pre-configured for the supplied Ortofon OM 5E pick-up cartridge, so there’s no need to set-up the tracking force or anti-skate during installation. The motor is also the same perimeter belt-drive type, with a low-vibration synchronous motor that’s controlled by a built-in regulator for improved speed stability.

Where the Primary takes from the Essential II is in the traditional design layout. It shares the Essential II’s high-quality MDF finish, and the acoustically neutral MDF platter/felt mat platform. The plinth is available in matte black, red or white finish, and the added benefit of this layout is in the included detachable dust cover.

The sub-platter and bearing are also similar to the Debut design, but the tolerances are far tighter for The Classic, resulting in a higher-quality performance.

The Classic also boasts a radical new tonearm design, inspired by the production processes developed for the award-winning RPM 3 Carbon turntable. The tonearm tube is made from a sandwich composite of carbon and aluminium. The carbon fibre gives the arm rigidity, speed and reduced mass, while the aluminium delivers better overall damping. The tube is then supported by a new bearing assembly with ultra-low friction and wider movement for improved tracking. The nickel-plated counterweight not only looks fantastic, it's also TPE-damped to ensure the arm remains acoustically neutral. The Classic tonearm can also be VTA and azimuth adjusted to suit almost any modern pick-up cartridge.

The Classic Superpack is supplied as with the Ortofon Quintet Red moving coil cartridge. The Classic is also supplied with a fitted dust cover, a junction box for easy cable upgrades and the Connect-IT E RCA cables. The three finishes (Eucalyptus (black), Rosenut and Walnut) also mean The Classic can fit into any decor.

The latest edition to the RPM range of turntables follows on from where the hugely popular Genie 3 left off. The RPM 3 Carbon boasts a number of improvements from its sibling, the new RPM 1 Carbon.

The new RPM 3 Carbon design has been upgraded to significantly reduce resonance across the turntable. While maintaining the instantly recognisable shape, this turntable boasts improvements in the tonearm, bearing, and motor.

The brand new tonearm is a carbon fibre/aluminium resin construct, made using special heat and pressure treatments. The result of this new design is a tonearm that is more solid and anti-resonant than ever before at this price, while maintaining a light weight. The arm is finished off with a pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge and a new magnetic anti-skate mechanism. The improved counterweight also utilises TPE damping in the form of an anti-resonant ring around the fixing point.

The new vinyl topped sandwich platter creates the perfect surface for your vinyl to play on with no need for a mat.

The completely decoupled motor is based upon the same design as the Xpression Carbon, powered by an AC generator that's connected to the new DC power supply. The inverted main bearing now utilises a ceramic ball, offering a more fluid and consistent platter rotation than ever before.

To celebrate their 25 year anniversary, Pro-Ject Audio are combining traditional design with modern technology in a brand new turntable model. The aptly named 'Classic' is a sleek, compact and elegant turntable based around the "frame" design popularised by the likes of Thorens and Linn in the 1950's and 60's, but implemented with the innovative technologies Pro-Ject have become known for.

The Classic turntable was introduced to high-praise and multiple awards in 2016. Due to the success of the original, Pro-Ject Audio Systems have decided to build a package, which includes some improvements on the original design for vinyl enthusiasts looking for a complete high-end solution.

The Classic SB SuperPack boasts the same elegant “frame” design as the original, with the only technical and visual change to the turntable found in the new integrated speed controller. This intuitive single button control provides Start/Stop and Speed-Change control for the motor for effortless changing between 33 and 45 RPM. The included additional drive belt also allows for 78 RPM rotation, when placed around the larger rung of the pulley.

As well as providing convenience, the speed generator also controls the performance of the motor, ensuring minimal noise and resonance is generated and transferred to the turntable. This design focus on minimal interference is carried through into the two-plinth design, where Thermo Plastic Elastomer (TPE) suspension balls decouple the main bearing and the tonearm from the motor.

The platter configuration of The Classic SB SuperPack is the same as the original, with a hidden sub-platter driving the special aluminium main platter. However, the The Classic SB Superpack includes an upgraded Leather-IT platter mat, rather than a standard felt design. Leather offers improved characteristics when compared to felt, and when used on The Classic opens up a more musical, engaging sound performance. This is then further improved by the included Clamp-IT record clamp. Record clamps are a popular accessory amongst modern vinyl enthusiasts, reducing record slip during playback and tightening up the bass performance with greater control and clarity.

The Classic SB SuperPack also boasts the same tonearm as the original model. The Classic Tonearm uses a one-piece conical tube made from aluminium, wrapped in a layer of carbon fibre. The carbon fibre keeps the tonearm light and stiff, while the aluminium adds improved damping and grounding. The bearing assembly is precision engineered, and includes a new bottom bearing that facilitates a much freer movement of the tonearm. The striking new nickel-finished counterweight is also TPE-damped, for improved performance.

The ability of The Classic Tonearm is so high, that The Classic SB SuperPack is supplied with an Ortofon Quintet Red Moving Coil cartridge. Offering a vastly improved performance compared to the original model’s 2M Silver cartridge, the Quintet Red is a well-rounded performer that works impressively across musical genres.

Finally, The Classic SB SuperPack is also supplied with upgraded RCA cables. The Pro-Ject Connect-IT CC RCA are designed for high-end turntable use – offering optimal signal transfer and shielding technology, to effectively reduce noise and maintain the original audio signal’s integrity.

In all other aspects The Classic SB SuperPack is the same as The Classic, benefiting from the advanced technologies that have made Pro-Ject Audio Systems a leader in the vinyl hi-fi market.
