Hello folks
I stumbled on this forum because I was looking for some information on a Croft Series V C amplifier which has taken to blowing power supply fuses since I moved to South West France.
But then I found a number of the threads interesting, so I've joined up. Hifi has been a lifelong obsession since adolescence in Edinburgh - anyone else remember Russ Andrew's shop there? I don't have a particular flag to fly for any format - I use vinyl, CD and Hi Res files - they each seem to have uses to me.
But I do have a bias towards analogue generally: I like Glen Croft's amps, large 3-way speakers and Kimber cables. Looking forward to a few discussions here. Rob

Kit: Rega Planar 3/RB300/Linn K9; Marantz CD17 MkII KI, Croft Vitale SC pre-amp, Quad 303 power amp (see above for Croft power amp issues), Spendor S9's, Kimber cable throughout.
I use a Lenovo laptop and an HRT Streamer II+ DAC for audio files.

Hi Rob. Welcome to AOS.

Tell us what music you like and about any plans you may have for your system.

If you want info about Croft amps, try starting a thread in the Blank Canvas area where it will get seen by everybody. You should get plenty of replies.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Hi Rob, welcome to AoS, I'm a good way north of you in France, in area 36.

Could look at your Croft for you but it would be a bit of a trek up north.

Enjoy the forum ,there is an excellent vibe on here.

Hi Geoff
Sorry, should have included music taste.
I think I'm lucky because I like a very wide range of music - Classical (particularly Haydn, Mozart, CPE & JS Bach, Mahler and Elgar), Jazz (particularly the 50's and 60's - I lost Miles after Bitches Brew) Rock & Pop (particularly 60's classics like the Small Faces and Hendrix, the 80's Deacon Blue, The Cure &c) and even a little 90's electronica (like Leftfield). I can't say I like Rap or current R&B. And I spent a lot of time in the 60's exploring Rural Blues from the 20's and Big Band era swing.
I do have a prejudice in thinking that the 70's were in many ways a golden era of both hifi and recording and that digital has been a mixed blessing to the whole field - except for recent Hi Res activity, which to my ears is great.
I don't realy have any system plans, other than perhaps getting my power amp working again!
I'll take your advice and post on Blank Canvas.
Cheers
Rob

Welcome to AoS.
You are almost/may be the closest AoS neighbour to me here in France.

I can't help with the issue with the Croft, but Alan knows his electrickery.

Hi Kevin
Yes, if you're in Toulouse we're quite close to you. We're in the Lot (46), about half an hour from Cahors, near Montcuq.
It really is such a pleasant place to live - we love it.
Cheers
Rob
