Hello all.

Not so long ago I bought some Silver/Gold Hybrid interconnects from Brian here on AOS.

Most of you know Brian from assembling the Klotz MC5000 MSAudio interconnects. Well, a while ago I borrowed a set of these Silver/Gold Hybrid IC's from him and I had them in my system for a good month.

With testing said cables I put them in and simply ran the system day in day out as normal. What I got was a very nice sounding cable indeed. Replacing the Klotz MC5000 in the source (Raspberry Pi/IQ Audio DAC) only I got a lovely sense of separation in the sound with an improved openness. Lower frequencies seemed more controlled and tight.

I sent them back with the intent to buy a set in the future but once I popped the Klotz back in I honestly felt that something was missing. Trying to put my finger on it was hard to do but I found that it was the lucidness of the sound had vanished. Yes, it was still very good but the bounce and the flow had been somewhat hindered a little.

So... I had to buy some and did. :)

I have to say that in my system I'm very impressed indeed and wondered if another set from pre to power (currently Klotz) would make another marked improvement. That is something for the future I guess.

If you are wanting to add that last little touch to the sound I'd highly recommend acquiring a set or on loan if you can... you may be very surprised. :)

Interestingly I swapped out my Mark Grant cables with my CD Player and I didn't get the same response. It goes to show how some kit likes different cables.

The Mark Grant cables on that duty are still the best and are staying put.

Thanks
Jo

Interesting Jo,
I came home to package in the porch-three sets of Brians latest configuration of the klotz 5000s. I was running a mixture of Mark Grant wbt2000 silver and Eeichman silver bullets, also had a NVA SSC in the fray.

Brian has let me run the whole shebang-dac/pre pre/hpa pre/power with the same cable and plugs for consistency. Initial impressions are good but will get some warmth in the tubes and 57s before I really start listening hard.

Heard the gold cable you refer to at my place...mighty impressive.

Hope this doesn't come across as a thread crap but the gold hybrids are also on my radar....im a hoarder and tend to keep all my wires and boxes for a bit of fun on rainy days or when the troops come round.

Sorry being a bit thick here Brian but what is the specification and make of these cables and RCA plugs?

What sort of price are we looking at for 0.5m?

Cheers

0.5 would be ok,how do you find them compared to the mc500

I'm guessing that this is constructed from the Mundorf 99% silver/1% gold cable that HiFi Collective sell (as silver/gold cable isn't exactly thick on the ground). As such, the stock cable alone is over £100 just for a stereo metre length.

They have a bit more '' air and space '' about them Jamie . You only really know what they're doing when they're removed from the system . I hope that this makes sense .

No it's not that one Mark . That's just a bit on the expensive side .

Looks like you're gonna be busy again:rolleyes:, if you do decide to go into full production can you put me down for a 0.5m pair as well Brian please.

Loved your last cable as did everyone whose heard it, so can't wait for the next installment of Brians' adventures in cableland;)

Thanks Martin , I've been playing about with cables for over 20 years and I'm always trying new ones . Occasionally I come across something which I really like :)

Fair enough :). Have you tried the Jupiter cable and, if so, what were your thoughts?

brian2957
26-03-2016, 09:18
Sorry Mark I don't know what the Jupiter cable is so I presume I've never tried it . If it's the £100/m cable you're referring to earlier then the answer is no . I'm afraid I just wouldn't pay that money for a cable .

No, it's not the Mundorf; Jupiter make a range of capacitors and cables - the cables are copper in cotton insulation and significantly less costly than the Mundorf.

Ah I see Mark . I'll have a look . Thanks for the information .

Am intrigued by this, would be interested to hear them.

Going back a few years in forum land, did "Zanash" not make a silver/gold cable at one point? I think I may have one in my stash somewhere.

I have ordered a couple of meters of this cable and some plugs and I'll get a set made up for demo .

Done a little digging... Yes, I do have a "Zanash AgAu" cable. No idea how it's made but would be interesting to compare.

I started off using the Jupiter cables but in all honesty Mark? Using unshielded single ended (over-priced) solid core copper cables does nothing for SQ,. I switched to properly shielded, very high quality copper cables and haven't looked back since...

Thanks for that Paul. I must admit I was a bit curious as to the long term stability of the Jupiter as there isn't anything to stop the surface of the copper oxidising.

Sorry about the thread drift.

Put me on the demo list Brian if you still need someone, but I won't be around for six weeks or so, so I may not be too much good to you.

The first set I made up was bought by the recipient and I've been too busy to make another . I will try and remedy this ASAP :)
