This very morning at 08:45 I sold my Croft preamp, or rather, I didn't.
Some dickhead from the States decided he would bid on it. He then realised that it was no good to himself and sent me a message saying he had withdrawn his bid, except, he didn't withdraw the bid. So, of course, the outcome is that he won the bidding and will now have to pay, except he won't of course.
So I am now left with the Croft preamp and I have to advertise all over again. This will of course take a couple of weeks to complete whereas I should have been paid by Paypal today.

Not to rub salt in the wounds but do you have to pay E-Bay for the sale ?
That is annoying.
You could stick it up as a BIN - should sell quite quickly.

Cancel the transaction. You should be able to re-list free.
Its a shame... Ebay used to be such a nice place to do business and still can be but too much re charges and buyer protection has dragged every idiot and conman around in to it sadly. I sold my boots there recently for a good price and it was a excellent buyer fortunately who was delighted....alas this experience is not the norm . i rarely sell anything there now.

David, you have to pay ebay to advertise the item, you have to pay ebay a cut of the sale price and you have to pay Paypal for using their bank.
Shaun, sorry to hear about your bad experience with eBay - would get onto eBay and speak to them.
They will have a message trail of all that has happened and should not charge you.

Thanks Guys, I have already taken Geoff's advice and cancelled the order.
Sold over 600 items on eBay and had just 2 issues, one of which was to a buyer in Portugal, so I now only sell to UK buyers. I use BIN with the purchaser required to pay at the point of sale and include Free P&P. This really seems to work. It's not eBay at fault, it's the numpty purchasers, so you need to control them as best you can ;)

That has happened to me twice now: outbid by a timewaster. On each occasion the seller asked me if I wanted to buy the items at my last bid price (not at my maximum bid).

My cynical mind would still think of dodgy seller .
ie the "timewaster" could either be the seller or a mate of his, who bids it up, to increase your bid to a level he was happy with.
eg he won at 220. your underbid was 200. but the next bid from a 3rd bidder was 120. I would suggest that you should be offering possibly one increment above the 120.
Cynical ????? me ????? ....... you bet.
