I bought this for my Disabled mate for his SME arm { Cos he likes to copy off me :D } , i thought it a pretty good price, together with the Ed Saunders styli i just ordered him. The total of around £50 altogether should have him a good sounding cartridge.. I recon he'll be happy..

Thanks Dave, please hold into it till i get this fitted for him. My own Shure 'V15/3' is a bit bright sounding tbh, the 'M95' might be a bit more tame, maybe a good filler cart till i locate a Shure 'V15/IV'.. He now has the same TT & Arm as me  i should be able to judge by his..

The Michell Focus One is a nice looking table but that's about it. I bought a special Export version back in the 80's after a chat with "himself" at the Bristol Show when one of the snotty sales people refused to sell me one. Instead of the suede platter, it had the Hydraulic Reference style of platter with the gold plated cones. Looked awesome but it was as microphonic as heck :(

Export Version! :D {I know the one you are refering to tho Transrotor 'Golden Shadow' by any chance?}, if you wanted one with Christmas tree lights im sure John would have obliged.. tbh i always thought the 'Focus' sounded best out of the early models :) My 'Focus One' sounds fantastic, a little bass light but a 5mm Black Acrylic mat put pay to that little issue, even better results with SME 'FD200' damper fitted to the '3009' arm..Shure 'V15/IV' is next move loike..

That's the platter the "export" version came with :D
Daft bint sales girl refused point blank to let me buy one and John came walking past so I collared him and asked why I wasn't allowed to buy one of his turntables. He said to her "Sell this man whatever he wants, otherwise I might be changing your job title". Never seen a sales slip filled in so quickly
Yep, I too reckon John would have sold me one even if I wanted food blender attachments with it :rfl:

Well, here it is, a Monarchy Audio M22C DAC/preamplifier. I just won the bidding, got it cheap too in my book. I'd actually bid over £400.

Weird/Dodgy listing? Sansui BA-2000 power amp. Claims to be in Oxford, but quotes £190 carriage and uses overseas dispatcher. Also it's 100v Japan spec amp. Looking at his feedback, I see an earlier sale of this item went bad because of the dubious nature of the listing.
Shame, as these are a lovely amp and one of my favourite Jap units (in UK voltage naturally).

In the cancel transaction thingamebob on eBay there is an "item has been lost" option which can be used in such times of need... I don't condone it but when you sell on eBay as often as I do you have to be a bit of a b*stard otherwise you get mugged off :(
Anyway, I'm confident they'll achieve a decent price so no worries

Like you, I have been watching speakers and CD spinners (now in fact!) for quite and I have seen so many items stuck at their low starting price right up until the closing minutes, then the bidding usually goes nuts - for worthwhile items of course. It was always my understanding that you can halt an item before 12 hours of auction end but not after, unless you know differently :eyebrows:
I would put a reserve on if they were mine and tell the punters what the reserve is - it does make a difference if it's sensible :eyebrows:

Yes - Thought you had - but still need to gloat as much as possible. I might part with the arm, since I have another (albeit scruffier and in need of rewiring) and would only really need it to play with very compliant cartridges, since I am otherwise happy with the funks. I shall call on Geoff for endorsement if I offer it in private exhibitions. Although I haven't yet heard one, I will be surprised if the deck itself is that shabby. Its basically an LP12 with a better sub-chassis (same weight of platter and material, same motor, broadly same suspension) and 2 speeds. Not sure about the dodgy brown nextel if I were putting it in my living room, but there's no accounting for taste...
Chuffed doesn't even start to do it justice :D

Nah, that's the going rate... You'll be looking at £70 for a 320, £100 for a 350 & £200 for a 370... All +/- 20% depending on wind direction...

Correct.
Ah! I was hoping to see some Garrard speakers. Actually if you allow for inflation £189 then would be about £600 now, possibly a bit more for a made in England product. I like the Nait but I think anything north of £300 is a bit steep for one.

For the simple reason that they are not an "old piece of shit", any more than a grease-bearing Garrard 301 is an "old piece of shit". They are rare and desirable, having been 'hyped up' by Japanese audio enthusiasts (just like Garrard 301/401 and EMT designs), so now command a lot of money - and some sucker will pay.
£2,300 is an absurd amount for a Thorens 124/II - it doesn't even come with an arm board. I doubt it will sell.

It's funny how time changes things, because that is exactly how both items were regarded in the late seventies with the advent of flash looking direct drives and the likes of Linn. This also applied to classic valve amplifiers like Leaks, Radfords and Quads, etc. Most people were mystified that some persevered with them instead moving to 'modern' solid state amps and the continued production of high class valve gear by companies like Luxman was a regarded as strange thing.

A friend of mine had a pair of ATC SCM 100A speakers (the big expensive buggers) and a Mark Levinson CD & processor driving them. You could say it was an impressive system, truly effortless, at the monstrous price it should have been too. Mind you I definitely could hear a slight touch of 'woodyness' to the upper bass, due no doubt to the big pulp bass cone. Otherwise the whole system was as close to perfection as most people would hope for. The Levinson gear is stupendously good.

Acoustas. Got them for nothing from a bloke who was moving house the next day and just wanted rid. PM6a drivers (from memory, this was 20 years ago now). Full range with the whizzer cone so you are not exactly going to get a sparkling top end no matter what you feed them with. Sold the drivers to Classique Sounds and turned the cabs into PA speakers for a mate who was a DJ. Happy days.

Apparently the bottom one is a passive radiator. There's a thread here started by a Simon P. from 2009 who had a pair. A pair went for just £72 at the end of last month.
I was never swayed by the whole Linn thing. Bought my first Thorens 124/II in 1971 and compared it with a Linn in 1982. The Thorens stayed, the Linn went.
Regarding Quad electronics, I have over the years possessed two sets of Quad valve amps. Neither set remained, both were replaced by Quad SS amps. The Radford (STA15 Mk. III) however is a different matter; the mid range is sweet and beguiling at the expense of the frequency extremes, especially the bass, but overall it is better than the Quad II. I keep it as an interesting alternative to my SS amps.
Incidently, that TD124/II on eBay with a starting price of £2,300 didn't sell - well there's a surprise.

Well the shipping says "Kein Versand nach Großbritannien" which means "No postage to UK" but I have often found that if you ask the seller nicely they will oblige.
The T-2 was Yamaha's TOTL from the late 70s-early 80s so the sort of time when analogue tuning was being replaced by digital. The digital display in this case is a frequency counter. I have a T-2 here and it sounds absolutely stunning on the right broadcast. It also has very good RF performance, the best of any Yamaha if the specs are to be believed.
Could be a good buy for someone now that the radio DSO has been postponed indefinitely.

Well the shipping says "Kein Versand nach Großbritannien" which means "No postage to UK" but I have often found that if you ask the seller nicely they will oblige.
The seller and the listing text don't state any objection to Great Britain - I'd suggest that it is Ebay stating Great Britain as not in the EU, probably on one hand for postage cost differences and on the other probably because they don't want us Brits buying from Ebay sites where PayPal isn't enforceable - They don't have to accept it in Germany for example and this seller doesn't.
Strange lot 'collectors'. Who the hell would pay for something just because it is a one off. Even if Pollock himself had done it, it would be overpriced. Its just a bit of hi-fi!!
Worse than that, it's a one-off made by the seller!
The youtube video linked to shows how easily it was made. No official Bang and Olufson youtube channel would contain only two videos that just happen to relate to the items this seller is selling, nor would they call the channel "Beo Olufson" when they can use their full name with 'official channel' after it.
The laser "J Pollock" engraving gives it away too - very shoddy and probably something they regret doing cos it looks shite. It's standard security tagging isn't it?
I might start spray painting all sorts of hifi in different, easy to replicate art styles and try to subconsciously convince people they are official rare limited editions..
I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of David Hart's selling accounts haha..

The badges look nice though. However, a little think it ended up being Yahoo search actually, says that Sigma Audio and Design re-badge some Tensai/Akai TM-2250 units with their own fancy fronts and sold them as "The Laboratory Amplifier" series.. So might say much for these either...

Yes that's a cracker James. The matching PMA-850 amp was a very good unit.
The required light bulbs should be obtainable.
I had to think twice before posting it on here but I really don't need it so wont bother bidding :) Lovely though !

2. Its not rare.
3. Packaging is available, ASDA sell bubblewrap £1 a roll.
4. Its only worth £25.
... Oh dear.

You're a bad man, James ;)
Yes they are pretty un-rare as things go. Now if he had the original PMA250 UK SE that would be rare and easily worth a ton.

:D
Which one do you mean ? This is the gem IME http://www.hifi-pictures.net/amplifiers-home/Denon%20PMA-250/amp.htm
Equalled an Exposure XX in my system at the time... With a little help from synergy I don't doubt.
Yes that one but they did a uk edition of it. Best amp I ever had.

I preferred the PMA-350SE. Had both.

Strangely the technically superior / better spec models like the 737 sound awful
I do think the whole "UK tuned" tuned thing is complete marketing BS though. I cant speak for the older amps but I know for a fact the last Denon amps to be "UK tuned" are actually made worse... they replaced the standard polyprop coupling capacitors with cheap electrolytics & removed the transformer screen
I've no idea what mods my 250 had but it had an outstanding sound. Not very powerful of course so I suppose the 350 would be superior although I've never heard one of those. I've had a 250 Mk III too but it wasn't anything like as good.

The BIN price is an utter, utter steal - someone should grab 'em now. If not sooner!

Cheers, more info there than you could ask for. They certainly look nicely made.
Must... Resist ! I'm passing near Poole on my way up country next weekend
Yep they won't last long.
Another bargain at the price:

I could have bought the A3 new for £750 back when I got my A2s but decided they would be overkill - doh!
What's the deal with these Goodman's drivers? I believe some of the full range efforts are pretty rare and sought after now:

Deserves to get a sale just for the Star wars reference. Must work in marketing or advertising:

The buyer backed out due to not reading the p&p charge and now the seller's offered them to me at £180.... Hmm will they fit in a car full of travelling gear :hmm:

I suspect they are a lot bigger than they look in the pictures. How big is your motor? having said that if you get there and there is not enough room you could always dump some of your other gear in a layby - the back seat for instance :)
