Hello,

will this Raspberry Pi SPDIF board work with the Caiman DAC ? It apparently outputs bit perfect to optical and coax. Is any one using one ?
Thank's,
Greetings

to answer my own question, it seems to work (see 4th post)

Hi Rupert, the Caiman II will work fine with any SPDIF link, and I've no reason to doubt the HiFi Berry digi board...;)

FYI I drive mine from the my SB3 optical out, works a treat :)

Thank's :) !

Maybe another question: There are two versions of this board, one with a transformer for the Coax output. Which output would you recommend Toslink or Coax + transformer ?

I'd have to defer to Stan on this one, I use an SB3 with my Caiman II, which is certainly not the ultimate in streaming sources...however with its huge monochrome screen it's the ideal streamer and alarm clock for my bedroom system...and ageing eyes ;)

FWIW I use a Belkin tosliink cable, but have not spent any time comparing it with coax...

IME experimenting and implementing various isolation/pulse transformers on SPDIF I'd go with the transformer/coax output and if possible use a BNC connector....obviously that may be a bit tricky with this board unless you're up for some DIY modifications.

I use exactly what you describe - the Pi & Digi+ board, plugged into a Caiman II. I have the galvanically isolated version and use the wired SPDIF connection, only because I'm already using the 2 Toslink inputs into the Caiman for other devices. I couldn't say I detected any sound difference between the wired and optical connections. I also use Moode on the Pi, by the way - works perfectly with this combination.

Battery power the Pi and Caiman II and the sound is exquisite. Don't hesitate - just buy one! :-)

Got one of these as well.
Connected to Stan's Caiman II via Toslink.

Works like a charm...on either cables .

With the RPI3, to get the Digi+ working you first have to disable Bluetooth. With piCorePlayer 2.04 you need to edit the config file by adding "dtoverlay=pi3-disable-bt". See the following link "http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?105018-Announce-piCorePlayer-2-00&p=852454&viewfull=1#post852454" on the SlimDevices forum. If you are not familiar with the vi editor try this for a simple introduction http://www.lagmonster.org/docs/vi.html. Sound quality with the Caiman II is excellent.
