How much do you think the new arm would cost please? and how much for postage?
I`m in Somerset
thanks Mark
That kinda depends on the arm Mark. A sme 3009 could be around 250/300 depending. a rega, maybe a bit cheaper, again depending; then a cartridge to suit, and a phono stage if you dont have one.
Postage would be at buyers risk; I would suggest in two boxes to reduce weight, as that can be the killer irrelevant of how well it is packed. I guess £35. Insurance would probably be pointless as most companies wont cover turntables(although they will take your money)

Lovely turntable, your right re postage I constantly get asked to insure something I am selling and amps and turntables are generally excluded. Still nice turntable though.

Thanks Colin.. its a beaut. yes, cd players are not insurable with a lot of companies either... getting very difficult to sell anything valuable ad potentially damagable now.. f the parcel companies took a bit of care in their business then their insurance companies may change their minds.... UPS might, but sure they wouldnt pay out

I have an early-ish Ariston RD11 (aka an "early linn sondek") with an Sme 3009. I'm hoping to get a sondek this week in which case I was going to list the TT complete with the arm. However there's no reason I couldn't sell the arm and table seperately.

Ok thanks, looks lovely, but this is getting out of my price range atm, I`ll get back to you perhaps if works remains constant (s/e)
thanks for your time, Mark
No Problem. It would suit someone that already has an arm tbh. I have been looking for a cheaper example of a 3009 to put on it but so far not found one. the one I have cost me about 160 all in. but prices vary from time to time; at least asking prices do, not so sure they sell though lol.
It wouls also suit a mission 774 as its the same fitting, or a rega with the centre fit, as I have a lovely silver alloy plate for them too; not the cheaper plastic versions
I have no idea of the SME cutout dimensions, but it seems to me you could probably fit a variety of S-shaped arms to that board? If you could reach a mounting distance of 222mm or thereabouts, that would really open up the options, but there's some arms shorter than that around to be had for cheap.

It will take anything with similar geometry. Hole can accept a rega 250/300, mission, and sme that I know of. there may be others of course if you can get a plate and the geometry is not to much of a difference that the plate will cover any enlargement . but its a pretty wide range with the 2 plates I have, which are both high quality ones.
I am in no hurry tbh, and would prefer it to be picked up, as it is both heavy and delicate.
I doubt anyone will find a better example for anywhere near this money.
5 day bump.... may sell the plinth separate if someone is interested....

I've saw this turntable in the flesh a few times and not only is it a beautiful piece of furniture , it also sounds sublime :)
Grant is also a true gent.
GLWTS sir :D
Make me an easter offer folks:D
I'll lay my cards on the table here. This thread has had well over 700 views and at least 600 have been me! I'm not kidding when I say I've looked at it every morning since it was posted for sale
I'm aching to own this but have a strict budget of £500 to buy something that I can plug in and play. And when I say "plug in and play" it's because I haven't the knowledge to know what arm (budget or otherwise) would do this justice.
I've put off buying a new cart for my current TT in anticipation of whether anything happens or not with this.
So, my question is, is this achievable for my meagre funds? And does anyone have a suitable arm/cart for sale? I really want this as a complete package as opposed to buying the TT then waiting months for the right (affordable arm/cart) to become available. Imagine buying a Ferrari with no wheels if you will.
I would need the TT posting though, so not sure if that's a deal breaker or not Grant? (Obviously I'll take full responsibility) if the worst comes to the worst.

Probably manage to get a rega arm ; rb250 or rb300 and a cart in that area, as long as the cart is not too exotic. Not the way ebay prices go though, which are frankly rediculous at moment. how well they sell of course is another matter.
Probably your best bet would be to put a wanted ad for one of the above into the classifieds here, and see if anything comes along. I have a rather nice rega armboard for it. If you find something at right price then you may well be in business Jon. I have seen them on sale here for that kind of money. You would be unlikely to get an sme though, but you never know.
Thank goodness this has been driving me mad since it came up and knew I was running out of time but just couldn't commit at the moment.
Looks like someone will be very happy.

As I said before I could take off the Sme 3009 from my RD11 for a fair price if this helps.
