Hi all,

Up for sale due to a change of turntables is my Garrard 401.

I bought this from Tim (Captintidy) last year.. The deck is very good condition and runs just how it should.

Included in the sale also is the American black walnut plinth i made for it. This has been cut for a SME 3009, It's top plate is made from 2 pieces of MDF 18mm thick giving 36mm thickness. The base is also from 18mm MDF.
The SME and glass mat will not be included but the original Garrard mat will be.

This is also on eBay (Overpriced due to silly offers coming in)

I'll try at £600 + delivery for both.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks Barry. I'd love to keep it but I just bought a Nottingham analogue interspace. It's probably nowhere near as good but I just fancied it for a change. I get bored way to quickly

I'm crying in my beer right now Nathan, sat in a bar in China waiting for the England v Wales game. If I was still in the UK I'd probably buy that back! Worth every penny :)

If you decide to split the motor unit from the plinth, I would like to buy the plinth. If you are willing to post it to Northern Ireland.

Is there reasonable space under the arm - in the plinth - to accommodate chunky arm cables ? Is the SME mounting for a 9 inch arm? Will it work with an SME 5 ?

I'll split if needed but I'd like to sell as is first. I'll keep you in mind if I don't get any joy in the next few day ok.
Cheers
Nathan.

Ooh, it looks lovely indeed Nathan.

I'd very much like to buy this, assuming I can sort out logistics. Really not sure about trusting such a lovely thing to a courier. Anyone travel from Bristol to Norwich?!

No worries Nathan.

If you had put this up a month ago I would have bought it all, but I bought a 401 back then, and while its off being sorted a different style of plinth to what I am getting would have been interesting to try.

Hi Mark,

I know what your saying about the couriers but just to put your mind at rest i have a massive roll of bubble wrap in my garage which i will be over generous with.

Let me know if you get anything sorted.

When I posted my last turntable, it was severely bubble wrapped, polystyrene buffers on corners. More bubble wrap, then boxed, padded and then boxed again, mind you the outer box had stiff cardboard about 1/2" thick that you couldn't bend. The outer box is what my new turntable came in from HiFi Hangar, safe as houses, might be worth asking about buying one from them with the packaging, even if it's £30+/- it would be well worth it.

Watch out for certain couriers who DON'T insure turntables, check the terms and conditions.

If you have any doubts about posting it, Don't!

Oh and remove the platter, wrap it and stow it under the TT so they don't make contact.

Turntable in its own box, platter off and wrapped in its own protection, plenty of packing all round. Turntable motor unit well packed too. Plinth in its own box with lots of packing. To do anything else recipe for disaster.

Great advice, this would have been my method. I've sent a couple of turntables around the world so have a little experience in packing extremely well.

Thanks again, it's appreciated.

No worries. I should have been more explicit.
