What am I doing wrong?
Trying to put sound into my motorhome.
Amp is a 12v Bantam
DAC is a Beresford Caiman
Single 12v source feeding a shop bought splitter for the two components, thus

When both plugged in there is speaker feedback/hum
When DAC is disconnected hum stops.

OK what is this "splitter" for a start? Are you getting sound or just hum? Is it actually mains hum? do you have mains connected to the van?

Yes mains is connected to van at the moment. Will try again later on battery power alone.
Splitter is a single power jack in that feeds several power jacks out

Mains humm is a horrible thing
Sounding great already....just hooked up a laptop to usb on the Caiman and the sound is lovely.
Two decent sized speakers filling a couple of overhead lockers

I would think that the hum could be just the poor rectification filtering and very basic if any regulation from the caravan 12v supply as the can be just poor switchmode supplies?, I have a Bailey Pegasus Bologna and its not bad and no hum :).
You could improve the Filtering and regulation of the 12 outlet that feeds your amp so you can still have the mains plugged in as well, even better build yourself a full power supply with its own dedicated transformer, rectifier, smoothing and regulation :eyebrows:

I have heard from a lot of guys who got a DAC of mine connected up to a Bantam amp or similar in a caravan or a boat. It's worth exploring :eyebrows:.

A cheap inverter just for the hifi could do the trick. I've got couple I got years ago from Netto @ £14.99 each which give 150W @ 240v.

Happy with the 12v set up. I will be off grid most of the time anyway with 3 batteries and solar.

That's a Long days drive no more no less.
Seems hardly worth the candle to drag/drive one's Caravan along.

It depends on if you want to do the distance without taking in any of the attractions in on the way. But the picture of the caravan was unlikely to have been taken in the UK. The scenery is far more rustique.
It was in the Vosges.
Do the Canadians not know that Switzerland is almost as close to some parts of the UK as northern Scotland?

Done the Europe explore in a Westphalia.. an unique adventure, albeit in my experience 'Organised' camping is an apt descriptor.
Hotels and leisurely drives between them, in a decent car, are my preferences as result.
Nice 900 by the way.
Owned Saabs since '84 Good solid cars. Iffy reliability tho ;)
Almost quick too, although 2nd gear is sketchy as boost onset has stripped teeth in a couple of my 900's.
Pricey that.
Current one is a '97 9000 2.3 (Aero) Carlsson I suppose in UK.

Why is there no standardised 12v jack size? like there is now on phones.
Just had to buy a converter to go from 5.5x2.5mm to 5.5x2.1mm

There is no standard, because items come in different sizes and current (Amps) requirement. So the plugs and sockets are in turn also differently rated as far as voltage and current handling is concerned.
Assumed the Aero was a North American Market affectation.

Otherwise it looks too familar 'cept for the wood bits on the steering wheel , door caps and the aftermarket gauges occupying the radio slot.
As for 12v plugs a while ago I bought a Wall wart type power supply of selectable Voltage and which came with a half dozen plugs of differing sizes Presumably to address your exact problem.
Cost a whole 12$ so not pricey and happily it still works 2 years later
Think Saab had a licensing problem with the name Aero in Europe. They sorted it after 1993, prior to that the UK had the Carlsson models.
Mine is the woodiest one in the world!

As stanley says. And that doesn't apply to phones because it's not a simple DC inlet - it's a standard microUSB port which carries data and all have the same voltage/max current spec for the power contacts. It's the data part that created the standard..
