Does anyone know what headshell this is? I don't recognise the logo on it. It looks impossible to get the cartridge twisted on the headshell, as it just seems to slide fore and aft . .

The logo looks a bit like the United Federation Of Planets.

Has it fallen through a timewarp from a fictional future?

:)

Plus if you squint a bit it looks like a cousin of the Starship Enterprise, boldly splitting infinitives . . .

The picture was from a German forum. I noticed it in particular because it was on a TT I have (A Kenwood KD7010 - or 990).

I can't see how to link to the post, but it's about 2/3 the way down this page:

I think it is from Audio-Technica, I had one years ago on a SME 3009, thought it sounded better then the original SME head shell.

After a bit of googling, it seems this headshell is made by Osawa but is sold under a number of brand names including "Expert"' "Jeweltone" and Nagaoka. This particular one appears to be a company called "Analogtechnik".

If you fancy one, it appears the same as these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nagaoka-Jeweltone-Expert-HS-180-Headshell-SME-NOS-/350475409324

Thanks Andy you just triggered the brain cell, mine came in a Nagaoka cartridge case, no cartridge though.
