More Bushmaster MkII Banter

Well, it is Saturday afternoon, the fifth of March 2016 and I have just taken delivery of a Beresford Bushmaster MkII with a custom built DC PSU. I bought this lot via ebay earlier in the week and, as I have nothing better to do on this Saturday afternoon, I thought I would give a CD a spin. So, The Chemical Brothers once again, Born In The Echoes.

Initially, there is much greater depth to the stereo image with everything appearing farther away in between the loudspeakers. The amazing sideways imaging is still there in its extreme way on this album so at least that keeps me very happy but the bass…! Where the hell did all of that extra depth come from…???

Compared to my Marantz CD6005, everything is much sweeter and more refined in a very analogue way. I have already noticed that this current system demands a warm up of about fifteen minutes as prior to that the treble is quite edgy but after this time everything smooths out considerably. Again, when compared to the Marantz, the new sound is a lot less ‘shouty’ and a lot less ‘aggressive’.

Really liking the new sound although it kicks arse with electronic music a lot less than it used to but at this moment in time I certainly prefer it. The extra octave or so of low frequency is very welcome as I was thinking that this was purely due to my KEF’s but this is not so, the low frequencies are much more obvious now so that one can feel them through the sofa.

Well, two hundred quid spent including the extra DC PSU and I am very happy with it but I need to test it on a much wider range of music. Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’ I think will be next.

One thing I have now noticed though are a few digital glitches whilst the CD player is accessing the disk. It only seems to happen at start up and not ending.

Good to hear you are getting along with the BM2. Once your get you head round what it does consider battery power-it gives a noticeable performance gain for not much outlay. Well worth a try IMHO.

So, today I listened to Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' in its entirety. Still massively noticeable is the stereo depth and sheer clarity of the image but this is not all, there are little musical threads within the recording that were not displayed when using just the Marantz. Subtle little bits of instruments that were simply not there before. As I am a lover of the good old stereo image I have to say that this is the biggest improvement over the stock Marantz. The image is absolutely surrounding and all encompassing. I love it...!

In summary, with the custom built DC power supply, this unit is massively better than the standard Marantz CD6005. I can easily say that it is better in every single respect. The stereo image though is something else, thankfully.

I wonder if a Caiman would be even better...?

In fact, I just thought of something else. Installing the Bushmaster in my system was the same as installing a moving coil over a moving magnet. The difference was that huge.
