warped vinyl - what to do?

Can you do anything with warped vinyl?

I picked up a brand new album in a shop yesterday (something ive been after for a while) and when I got it home its terribly warped, to the point that you can audibly hear the warp when playing it (a slight thump on each rotation).

Now the shop is a 40 min drive from me and whilst I have no issue taking it back (apart fro the slight annoyance at a wasted morning etc) is there anything DIY you can do to sort out a warp? Or is it best just to return it for a return / refund?

You can try and take it out by baking it inbetween 2tiles or sheets of glass with some weight on top. I would likely take it back

I'm going to ring the shop later this morning and tell them il be bringing it back. £22 it cost so I at least expect it to be flat for that sort of money!

Take it back and demand a replacement. If they can't give you a flat replacement then ask for your money back.

We used to have a very good record shop here (before the advent of CD) who would always take back a record without quibble. In their words "it's the only way record companies will learn to improve their quality".

Yep, take it back. Warps are so annoying but myself I usually keep records with minor warps but if I feel the tonearm is bobbing about too much for comfort (or it's audible), it goes back without hesitation.

As it's a new record take it back. I have some old vinyl that have a slight warp and I flatten them between more lp's an leave in the airing cupboard in the warm....Older vinyl seems easier to rectify rather than the newer stuff :( :(

Older vinyl, in general, is better than the newer stuff.

Yep its going back at the weekend. I also realised it was a 45 rpm version as well which was an added annoyance as it meant I had to swop the belt over to play it........must check these things more in the shop!

Yeah I must admit Grant its the only thing I don't like about the deck. I don't tend to buy / play singles but I do have a few 45rpm albums which would get far more of an airing if I could change speed with more ease!
