Optical cables

I'm using an optical cable (Fisual Pearl mini toslink to toslink) for the first time, linking a Chromecast Audio to a Rega DAC.

Are there any gains to be had by using something a bit more exotic?

Beresford, Blue Jeans, QED?

Glass opticals always sounded better than plastic to me.
If you can get a hold of a Lifatec glass cable or an older Mark grant one that'd be a step up imo from what you have.

Ive a glass fisual as well, its rather good. I aint now using it but keeping it incase I change my mind. well worth getting

Always ignore anything which celebrates it having gold contacts! Sounds a stupid thing to claim on an optical cable but people do..

After reading through another thread, I see it is the Hollywood - have just ordered one with a mini toslink adapter.

My Fisual Hollywood cable has arrived today. I've only had a brief listen, but sounding very good indeed, a nice improvement over the Pearl cable.

Can't go wrong at this price, especially with the Chromecast at £15!

I have never heard an optical cable that sounds different from another one, tried the Fiscal and it sounded no different from a more expensive Chord Optichord I have.
I tried the Fiscal on my Sonos Connect for a week and it killed the sound, flat, lifeless, boring. Changing back to coax with a 20yr old DPA cable restored the sound to something more acceptable.
Maybe glass optical cables sound better?

I had similar results with a toslink digital connection. Settled for AES/EBU for a much better presentation.

Best digital connection I've heard is a transformer coupled 75 Ohm BNC to 75 Ohm BNC.
By quite a large bit actually.

Did the glass optical thing, even the high end USB thing and I keep coming back to this.
Decided to trust my gut, got the best cable I could afford and have never looked back.
