This is my latest purchase :eyebrows:
The former owner was a gent called John Edwards who run Hollywood studio in Clapton London
John told me this machine was used to produce masters for the Eurythmics prior to hem having their own studio also Iron Maiden
Johns claim to fame was no other than

John wrote the song as well as producing it :)

"Save Your Love" is a song which, when performed by duo Renée and Renato, was a UK Number one hit in December 1982. It remained at the top of the chart for four weeks before being knocked off by Phil Collins' "You Can't Hurry Love".[1] The song was written by Johnny Edward (creator and voice of fictional robot TV character Metal Mickey) and his wife Sue.

"Save Your Love" entered the UK charts on 13 November 1982 at number 38. However, it began to pick up sales during the Christmas period, and six weeks after its debut was at the top of the charts, resulting in it being played on Top of the Pops and many radio stations. Renée (whose real name was Hilary Lester), did not appear in the video for "Save Your Love"; instead, she was replaced by a model.

Number 1 in the pop charts for 4 weeks :)

John also still has Metal Mickey as used on LWT

The R2R was shown working but only through the built in monitor speaker , When I arrived home with it I connected it via the XLR - RCA and have nearly no output , very faint

Also the XLR connecters are mega tight and I mean almost wrong mega tight

Well done Al That is a great machine, I used to work at Hollywood studios a lot back in the day as both an engineer and a producer and mastered many times on that machine. In the back of my mind, I seem to think the XLRs on the Otari may have been wired reversed, this may be what's causing the low output. I remember we had a problem when parallel wiring a Sony F1, its worth checking this out.

I mastered the Coventy FC single on that machine, amongst many other tracks. A strange coincidence is that John's other claim to fame, is that he was in one of David Bowie's earliest bands the Manish Boys. The last record (and film sound track) I did at Hollywod was Underground, a sound track album for a film that was by Pete Stern and his writing partner Gail Ann Dorsey, who was David Bowie's bass player and sometime duettist. I have here the master of the album, as recorded on your new tape machines.

BTW. If you speak to John again, please tell him Doc Stewart sends his regards

If you have his number, please PM me Al. Hollywood was one of the best studios in London with a genuine Eastlake Acoustics interior and a fabulous Harrison desk. I only stopped working there 'cos I took over at Tin Pan Alley in Denmark Street. There was a keyboard/synth player and musician called Andy Stronach there who work with S-Express and Bomb the Bass, we did a couple of tracks that became real cult Techno-Sleaze dance tracks in Germany. :) Happy days. As you mentioned Metal Mickey, I'll tell you that Sue, John's wife gave my son a set of MM badges and annuals when he was about 6, he's 31 this year, with a 16 month old of his own.... Time really does fly when you're having fun.
