This speaker is similar to the current CC5 which retails in the UK for £1350, and I recall the CC3 being around that value too when it was still being sold by Stone Audio. I've never seen a second hand one for sale in the UK before but would guess at a typical second hand price of around £500.
I'm pricing this speaker lower than that because it's no longer in stock form, and I can't verify if it's performing at the same level as stock. I never got to hear it in stock form, because I purchased it from the US just over a year ago, and when it arrived I found that quite a few of the wires on the base driver had come unstuck during the journey. I decided to get a partial refund and keep the speaker as a project, as I knew it's a well practiced fix to reglue the wires on the magnepan bass drivers.
I made some other tweaks before attempting the glueing - I replaced the stock crossover wiring with magwire (this tweak has improved every other speaker I've tried it on), bypassed the stock fuse and tweeter attenuator and added proper binding posts and adjustable spiked feet (all shown below).
I then attempted the glueing, but was not happy with my technique. I therefore got in contact with a fellow UK magnepan fan who has plenty of experience of doing the glueing. We stripped the old wire completely and ordered new wire from Magnepan - the new wire was slightly different to the old, but Magnepan informed us it would be equally suitable. My friend then performed the reglueing, and the results looked as good as new.
On listening to the speaker, although it worked again and the glueing appeared to be a success, I was not certain if it sounded as good as a stock version should sound. However my friend was convinced the repaired bass driver was 100% fine, and that my crossover rewire was also not an issue, and advised that the crossover components and values could be improved to create a more pleasing sound.
I did intend to then play around with the crossover values and upgrade to better components, but have never got round to it, and would now rather sell it on to someone with the time to get it sounding its best. The repaired bass driver and tweeter look in great condition now, so I think the crucial design element that represents most of the value of a magnepan speaker is working fine here.
I'm located in Swindon, but work in Wythall (south of Birmingham), so it can be collected from either location, or I could meet up close to either town, or anywhere inbetween.
