View Full Version : Why are batteries better than power adapters???
I have come across many instances where SQ enthusiasts recommend battery power supply over walwarts. I have recently purchased a budget ART dj-Pre phono amp which gets good overall review for casual listening. However, I have come across discussions that say the sound stage opens up noticeably if the power supply is replaced with with a 12v sealed lead acid battery. Is this a worthwhile investment and how does battery power supply provide for better SQ?

It depends on the quality of the power supply. If your talking about cheapo switching wall warts then batteries will most probably be better.
Depends on the wallwart tbh, but a lower noise floor of a really good smps, battery or linear supply will help many things, although not all

All batteries have noise, some chemistries are better than others, some have a lower impedance than others, but most will have a lower impedance than a discrete psu. The thing with battery PSUs is you are pretty much stuck with what the battery does, discrete PSUs offer greater flexibility and can bve made with just as little noise.
