Hello Everyone!,

Heard about this forum through Mr Brady while chatting about our Onix addiction. My love of Hifi (mainly Onix) started 20+ years ago when a friend sold me an OA21s/BWD-1 I'd not heard of Onix before this and wired it up to a set of B&W DM620s (which I still have) and a Teac T500/D500, My life changed in many ways from that point as I was blown away with its performance. I found a SOAP and things just got better. I sold this system some time back and have regretted it ever since. I found an OA24/SOAP and 2 OA401s in a second hand shop sometime after and just had to have it. Since then my Onix collection has expanded to an OA36, OA801, 2x OA901s and another OA24/SOAP with 2 OA601s. I just can't bring myself to sell any of them as I love them all.

Currently I have a 2 channel room in the lounge with the 801, 36 and both 901s attached to a pair of AE109s. My main source is a Control4 HC800 through a Musical Fidelity DAC. It's not Ideal but getting up to change CDs just seems like a bit of a faff these days. My CD collection has been ripped to Flac and sits on a NAS.

Upstairs I have a 5 channel room with the 601s bi-amping the front DM620s, a Rotel RMB1066 (all chanels bridged) running the B&W centre and 4 Kef eggs, Rel Strata 1 and Bose sub fitted in to the base of the sofa. My Pioneer AVR has little to do other than run the middle back surround Kef egg.

I will post some pics when I figure out How.

Thanks,

Rob.

Welcome to AOS, Rob.

What is the difference between the OA20 & OA21s? Do they both sound identical?

Hi Shane, I've not yet heard an OA20, I thought it was an older version of the 21s without the din plug for the SOAP, but I could be wrong.

Hi Rob. Welcome to AOS.

I've heard of Banstead. Been through it a few times, you're only about 12 miles from me. :)

Tell us what music you listen to and what plans you may have for your system. I know Onix amps, but have not tried one so far.

If you have a good look around here you'll see that every aspect of Hi-Fi is covered, so I'm sure you'll find plenty to interest you.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Thanks Geoff,

The forum is great, I've been up late trawling though it (must have an early night soon *yawn*)

I listen to all sorts of music, anything that sounds good really. Dub step is quite popular currently as is sounds so good, Ornaments fall from their perch quite frequently. I've got a vast collection which I play from a Nas mainly. I really need a decent CD player since I sold my Teac some time back when I switched to network based media streaming. I love the convenience of Control4 but it just lacks the clarity and detail of a decent source. I've re-ripped my collection to Flac and tried different Dacs but I don't think it will ever be as good. I listen to alot of bands and frequent Glastonbury every year without fail. I'm big in to Doves at the mo, Chilli Peppers, Placebo as well as Acid House and Electro. The problem with having all this music at your fingertips is that you tend to switch between the different tracks, without listening to anything properly, I'm sure a decent CD player would change this.

I'm looking at changing my speakers (AE109s) and have been offered some Naim S400 Ovators at a really good price. I'll be interested to hear any views on the combination of those with my Onix amps. I enjoy the setup of these systems sometimes more than actually using them, strangely.
